Should Marijuana be Legal?

Yes. Now, can you answer my questions, please?

 

No, I'm not really here to argue, just to give my opinion. To be honest I don't really care if it gets legalized, won't affect me. I'm just really saying that legalizing marijuana just on the fact that tobacco and alcohol are legal is not a real reason to do it. However if it does get legalized it should be 21+ and regulated same as alcohol.

Do you think that the ends justify the means? For this scenario yes.
Do you think that a person should be free to consume substances at their own volition? If they can harm someones else while doing it, then no.
I'll rephrase the last question: Do you think that a person should have the right to FORCE someone to NOT do something? ^

Well, I'm sure people have harmed others immediately after drinking caffeine; that doesn't mean caffeine causes people to harm others. On the topic of marijuana, you need to establish a cause wherein marijuana causes people to act violently. You have not yet done this.

That answer is inapplicable to this question. How about another rephrasal: Do I have the right to put a gun to your head and force you to do what I want?

It's actually rather silly. The consequence of possessing a substance that happens to be illegal is to be treated violently (taken to the police station by force, etc). You are arguing that we need this violence to prevent further violence. Nice.

 

I believe Marijuana should become legal, mainly for the taxes issue. More money for the Government, the happier they/the people are. Marijuana is also relatively harmless, compared to other legal substances.

Some people come home from work and consume alcohol, some smoke a cigar, why is weed so different? Simple, the illegality. Tobacco companies accompanied by several alcohol producers all have very strong lobbyist in D.C in order to keep drugs illegal. They need for them to remain illegal to ensure maximum profits. In addition, the media has given very inaccurate information about marijuana and has helped deteriorate its image. As a result most parents picture marijuana as a dangerous drug that could ruin an adolescents life.

Although, in my personal case it has had the direct opposite effect. When I did not use marijuana i had a 2.6 GPA in high school and most of the time I was brought down morally because of personal issues. I felt as if life was just pointless and there was no point in living if one couldn't just live the way one wanted to live. Now in college, I have a 4.0 GPA, and ever since I tried it for the first time I realized how incredibly great life is. I don't focus on my problems because I understand that people experience barriers for one purpose, to overcome them. Marijuana needs to be legalized or at minimum decriminalized. Its been more than 40 years since the indefinite war on drugs was launched. I believe its safe to say that its not a winnable war. No government in this earth can protect an individual from themselves, things simply don't function in that manner.

Oh really how so? I have never spoken to a single individual who smokes marijuana daily and have them tell me that they can't go a day without it. In fact, I have this conversation with almost every person I smoke with. I've always received the same conclusion. People who smoke marijuana can go months, and even years with no withdrawal or any sense of real attachment. When U.S soldiers returned from the Vietnam War, most having smoked, there were no real reports of any form of addiction. People who argue that marijuana is addictive are simply spreading that message from information derived from people who have never even tried it. I have seen friends go more than 6 months with out it for employment purposes. Never once has it affected them or myself.

I think It should not be legalized. Alcohol and cigarettes are far more dangerous but I believe that the power of these companies have are able to keep them legal. The focus should be making cigarettes illegal then focusing on Marijuana.

I believe the goverment should not posses the power to decide what we do to our selfs this including marijuana. I believe as long as it does not harm/affect others it should be legal. If marijuana is illegal for being unhealthy then why arnt hamburgers and french fries illegal too as they are unhealthy and potentially more dangerous then that of a round of puff puff pass or something else.
