Why is Marijuana Illegal?

i heard that they cannot tax it because it has so many substances in the one substance, like parts, and im not sure if they can tax them all :s

 

Marijuana could be ruled into law as a "whole drug" and not composed of different parts. The government could also impose a general "narcotic tax" (Sort of like the tax on tobacco. They are all different varieties but all fall under the same tax) which would only affect marijuana, seeing as it would be the only narcotic legal, to the extent of my knowledge.

 

Narcotic refers to a drug's legal status: the claim that a substance is illegal because it is a narcotic confuses the cause and effect.

 

While that is the definition used in the United States legal system, I am using it in the sense that narcotic means any drug that "blunt the senses, as opium, morphine, belladonna, and alcohol, that in large quantities produce euphoria, stupor, or coma, that when used constantly can cause habituation or addiction, and that are used in medicine to relieve pain, cause sedation, and induce sleep." Or, in case the word "addiction" made you angry, here's an alternate definition; "anything that exercises a soothing or numbing effect or influence."(Dictionary.com definitions used as its definitions are accurate after referencing several paper sources)

Upon legalization, marijuana would remain a narcotic medicinally but legally, by legal definition, it would not.

So, you are correct that it does refer to a drug's legal status but the word "narcotic" does not solely refer to said status.

Just to add on: The word "narcotic" became synonymous with "illegal drug" because narcotics, as defined originally and medicinally, were targeted for prohibition.

I do disagree with its classification as "as dangerous as heroin" but this varies with presidential administrations and could change.

I find no connection, though, between this and its illegality because this classification was very recent and well after its prohibition.

 

Alcohol is legal, then so should weed be. Alcohol causes way more trouble then marihuana does.

Legalise it, tax it, control it. Help people get off their addiction.

As long as there is demand, there will be supply, so illegalising wont work.

 

Again, "just because alcohol is legal" is not addressing the international issue. One may have less documented problems than another but international sanctions cannot be ignored.

The matter of the fact is that as one of the nations on the security council, the United States must uphold United Nations sanctions. The security council's decisions are law (not literally, but read on) in the U.N.. This meaning that when a country joins the United Nations they agree to cooperate with any decision made by the security council or face ejection. If the United States were to go against a sanction that applies to all nations, then how come they get to decide what everyone else does? That is precisely the argument that would arise.

In Holland, it's not illegal , and here here allot of people die off the addiction . And I have enough friends who are really addicted .. who fuck up there school .. losing all there friends, is that all worth it?

 

It is Illegal here in Australia, but its readily available I would walk across the road now and get some, but Im off it. Here we have Legal Marijuana, which is a synthetic substance thats produced with chemicals to give the same high as weed dose. You can buy it from shops and even smoke it at work as its no illegal, but I think its far more worse, Some guy smoked a bag of it and had a heart attack, thats never happened to anyone from smoking weed.

Weed can be bad though, its different for all people, I my self smoked it heavily and enjoyed it for years until It started to cause problem, now I have severe depression and anxiety and its from smoking so much weed.

 

I'm an expert when it comes to cannabis.

First of all, it IS legal in 16 states so far.and a lot of states are beginning to have votes for legalization.Secondly, the government is extremely corrupt, weed is not legal federally because the government can't tax it because u can grow it yourself easily.Also, the reason most parents are afraid of it is because of propaganda in the 60's-90's.This propaganda was funded by companies that produce alcohol, paper, cigs, and oil.because if people knew about all the uses of cannabis, then all of those companies would go out of business.the government only cares about money, all the shit in Iraq was a corrupt decision.
First, the government faked a terrorist attack on 9/11.Investigators recently found proof that c4 was in the twin towers before the plane hit, the government faked the attack because that gave them reason to invade Iraq, and the reason they did all this is because they discovered MASSIVE oil fields in Iraq.So this just prooves that the government is corrupt and only cares about money, and that is why mary jane is illegal, butcause pill companies cant patent something that is best used unaltered.

What the fuck are you talking about? First of all, cannabis isn't legal in Holland, it's just that you can buy it in coffeeshops and the police won't charge you with anything if you have less than 5 gram on you.
You can't die from cannabis. Your friends are fucking up their school because they're lazy, cannabis helps with being lazy.

 

I totally agree, but if a country has coffeeshops selling it to anyone over 18 (similar to the rules of alcohol in the UK for example which is legal) then I was consider it to be legal in Holland.

I definitely think that picture shows all of the main facts that should be considered, hopefully one day it will be legalized.
