Spoiler tags

How was it exploited? What kind of codes exploited it? etc?

 

I was hoping that would be the case. They can be fun to have for certain things... And makes somethings easier so they'd be good.

 

I've always enjoyed the use of spoiler tags.

I have no idea how or why people would exploit it, however if this barrier can be overcome, I definitely support them being re-implemented.

It's possible to do it with just CSS, preventing the need for JS. All you have to do is throw on a pound sign to the show spoiler link, the only thing is it would have to refresh the page. Not too much of a loss for the removal of exploitation. You could kind of exploit it, but it would only lead back to Sythe regardless.

Also, if you program in enough clauses, such as a validation for the show hash, you could restrict to only showing a valid spoiler.

Basically, the user would click the show link, the page would reload, go to the post which has the spoiler they want to view, php would then parse the link's hash to load the style for that spoiler.

It's a little more complicated, but pretty safe.

 

Was going to suggest something like this until I saw this thread, been wanting something like this for a while.

Would've been able to cause less spam in for example the 'Names Sales' section, where sometimes people ask for a post in their thread requesting a PM for their name. Being only viewable by registered members, the need for posting then would be unneeded.

Support in this getting put back, hopefully the exploits involved with what happened last time can be overcome.

 

Good point, but is a single spoiler tag worth a page refresh? I don't think we should implement it unless we can do so with JavaScript without risking obvious exploits.

 

Again, if they can be implemented without the risk of people exploiting them, then I support them being added. They will be a very nice feature.

 

Was looking for these the other day but figured Sythe.org doesn't have them. Full support!

 

It would be good for the movies/ television/books section where you don't want to give out the spoiler.

I'd love to see Spoiler tags back. They can make things a little bit more fun for things like Signatures and the Spam Forum, but I'm sure they can be put to use in the market for professionalism stake.

I remember once upon a time we had a warning message that appeared when a member clicked a link that took them offsite. Could that be implemented with just links in Spoilers? Or not?

 

If this could be possible, I'd love for the spoiler tags to be re-implemented. I know they could greatly benefit the site. I would use them frequently for SytheMonthly, and they could be used for other things like market threads, OMM applications, etc.

 

I'd love to see these, as long as they aren't abused. I think it would make a great addition to the site.

 

I love spoiler tags. I have absolutely no clue why, my computer doesn't lag at all loading pictures.. I just really like how they look

 

They're also excellent for having a way to avert some restrictions on the forums. I.E the 650x350 signature space.

 

It seems like everyone likes the idea, so it boils down to security. I'm not sure how the tags were exploited originally, so we're at a standstill. Unless someone in the know wants to clue us in (on here or by PM), maybe we could code it ourselves and try to exploit it.

I'm not sure if you missed it, but Matthew stated on the front page they were removed because links were being implemented to the spoilers sending members offsite.

 

I meant that I'm not sure what method people were using to exploit them. Should've been more clear.

I would like to know how they could be any more or less malicious to quotes or any other link that can be placed in a post or signature.
