I thought this would be a cool topic for a thread just for some discussion. I was just thinking about how jagex chooses Moderators. whether or not there are certain qualifications you must meet to be considered such as account age, average play time, reports you make ect. How do you think jagex chooses mods? Are any of you mods on runescape? Discuss.

My friend is a mod. He told me that all he does is pk, use good grammar, and report people. But when he reports people, he tells the person that he reported them and why.

This guy NEVER leaves edgeville, he is a lvl 50 f2p pker.

I assume you must play for several hours a day, kiss ass, and simply report people any time someone breaks a rule.

I dont really think it matters the hours you play really as much as it does that you get on every day, never get reported for anything and report people with still being nice at it.

On a side note how much do you think a Player Mod account would sell for?

I dislike player-moderators. Half of them are idiots. Full ignore list of them.

Depends on the stats/trust of the person selling it. Say A trusted account seller like KeroKeroCola was selling a mod account he could probably easily get $700-$1000 for it.

Alot of the qualities Jagex seeks in their Player Mod candidates, are the same qualities that the Sythe staff would seek in new staff members on this website. There are obvious ones like honesty, integrity, people who follow & respect the rules, as well as report other people who are breaking them, people that are thoughtful, friendly, and generally helpful to other players etc.

But I know that Jagex also selects their Player Mod's based on actively reporting people breaking the rules. This does not mean reporting every little thing that somebody does wrong, or every time somebody says a swear word, but the players who legitimately report rule breakers in a genuine attempt to make the game a better experience for everyone. I've also heard that they heavily emphasize account security, and so they look for people who have a bank pin & recovery questions set, and who actively change their passwords every few months.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that good grammar is a huge bonus to increase your chances of becoming a Player Mod. You almost never see Player Mods who have horrible spelling/grammar, as these players are expected to be role models for the rest of the community and so if they don't sound intelligent when they speak, its unlikely people will listen to them or take them seriously.

Some of them are just active, mature people involved in community activities

Some of them are people who just report a lot of people

    I agree.
Most of them think that they have some sort of "authority" over all other players. Especially the level 138's who just ignore everyone and feel like they're better than everyone else.

    Support.

Due to their ego, they think they're stand on higher ground over other players because of their status, but the truth is they're the same as everyone else.

OT: I thought I saw an article on the RuneScape site a while ago outlining the details about Player Moderators, however I could be wrong.

But I would assume a couple requirements to be for a player to submit many, many reports and to have a good knowledge and experience of the game.

Not sure if they intentionally ignore people. A lot of active players such as player moderators are part of clan chats and tend to focus on that more then public chat. Also if they are anything like me they watch movies/youtube videos ect while doing boring tasks. I do agree that a lot of them think they're better then other players but a lot of people do kiss their asses so maybe they just get used to being put on a pedestal.

And Mods with poor grammar would make JaGeX look bad.

I don't think JaGeX has that many qualifications for Mods because plenty of them are just not good. For example, all of those that act as if they are on a throne.

Is there really a point in having player moderators? I don't see how they really benefit the game, only thing they can really do is mute people. And also I think recommendations play a role in becoming a player moderator also. If I'm correct mods can recommend players for mod status.

    This.

I had a friend who was a high up mod (Yes there's such thing as these on real runescape) who was close to many of the jagex mods.

He basically said the easiest way on getting it is joining J mod cc's and kiss ass and report people all day.

There are two types of Mods:

    - Mods who report everything to get the e-cock harder

    and..

    - Mods who abuse the system and mute people for 48hrs for no reason

So basically, there is only one type of Mod, doosh bags.

You simply have to report people and have good grammar. Tbh, that's it.
