US has highest rate of prisoners in the world -- higher than China

Most of the people in prison are there for drug related crimes and most of those people will be back in prison after they have left. It doesn't make sense to simply punish people for drug related crimes as it does not work to stop them.

 

Okay, now take the amount of incarcerated Americans and divide that number up by race. Then, look at the percentages. For some reason, the majority of those people are "colored."

 

I would have to say that this has to do with social-economic status more than anything else.

 

The overall lack of education and the lack of support for the most poverty stricken people leads them to turn to drugs (selling or using) which in turn leads them to crime.

In Canada possession of pot under 1 gram (basically if you have a single joint) is not a criminal offense, however in the states I believe they equate pot to something like cocaine.

The insane policing of drugs is equally akin to the prohibition on alcohol which was shown to be a gross failure and waste of time and money, however instead of actually admitting that they are wrong they instead inject more money into propaganda about a crazy person (of a minority most times) doing something crazy because they live in poverty such as shootings to get the general public afraid and take advantage of their fears at the voting stations.

In Canada I NEVER see PSA's about drugs EVER because people just don't care as long as you don't hurt someone else while you are using them or you don't commit other crimes, which of course leads back to the fear because if you are chronically afraid from the news published you are more likely to cap they guy who is buying these drugs if they do something sketchy.

The United States is in a better condition then much of the world. If a higher number of prisoners results from that then So Be It. This was obviously written by someone who is clearly anti-american.

it may sounds strange ,but I love american jail..
In america when you kill someone you will pay for it in jail ... In america jails are real. Here in Belgium And Holland when you kill someone you get 5 years.. and after 3 years you come free early..
It makes me mad.. And even knowing America has the biggest population , I think the American jails are the best. the best on the world.

 

No, you personally won't pay for it in jail. This is a common false belief among foreigners. If you murder someone and are in jail for life, you are basically a burden among tax payers. In jail you can get many things like TV's laptop's books and what not, best of all if you are a lifer and someone pisses you off then just kill them. You can try an escape too if you want.

 

There's an excuse for everything though. The murderers had a bad childhood, the Mexicans can't get work in their own country, everybody is out to get black people, unemployed people can't get jobs because of the bad economy. Just another excuse. Regardless of what the circumstances are, the end results and facts don't lie.

I think its good. It means that people do something wrong are actually punished!
For example, take Belgium, alot of weird shit, that shouldn't happen (such as thieving, raping) just happens, and they barely get punished!

America is known for having a harsh legal system, Here in the UK if I were to assault someone on a night out and no real damage was done(Nothing Broken or disfigured) I'd be looking at a night in the cells(Police holding cells) and a £40 fine, The person I assaulted would more than likely drop the charges because going to court is a hassle when the person will more than likely get off with it or a small fine.
Whereas in America(Not going to pretend I know the legal system in america but going to guess) It's possible to get a custodily sentance for an assault.

I've seen people walk free after stabbing people where im from, this would never happen in America and you should be proud at times of your harsh legal system, it takes scum bags of the street, whereas 90% of the time they are left to roam free here.

 

Us is #1 in lots of things, i think obesity is one of them.

 

Simple answer is to execute every prisoner with more burden on the pax payer then the average criminal.

 

I agree US is slowly turning into a police state. Read up on it Obama signed a new law into action in Dec 31st at about 8pm when everyone was busy celebrating the new year, so barely any news coverage had taken place. It's called the Indefinite Detention Act. It states that anyone, even american citizens suspected of being a terrorist will be taken to custody without a warrant, and without a trial. Also don't say 'you're stupid, it says only suspected terrorists', well then you should also read up on what america what america believes a suspected (not a convicted) terrorist to be. Saddest part is right after the Senate passed the bill for obama to sign, he said he would veto it as it would interfere with the freedom of many american citizens, then a few weeks later, he changed his mind and signed it anyway.
