For those of you who are unfamiliar with the condition:

As a society, why do we view savantism as an affliction? The amount of untapped potential in individuals with this condition is frightening. The few closely documented cases of savantism have mainly shown artistic talent, but what if even a small fraction of these individuals are able to, instead, solve profound equations?

We may very well have humans capable of vastly advancing modern medicine right before us.

Perhaps. Society is rather pessimistic now'a'days, and will only focus on the restrictions. If someone with Savant Syndrome produces a fascinating painting the general public will mostly say, 'O, that's nice. Pity about their limitations in othher areas however'.

We must first find this or these individuals who might posess this kind of intelligence. Overall I don't think anyone would trust or be willing to pay a person with savantism as an employee, unless closely monitored. They can also become very erratic at times. It just comes down to risks no one is willing to take.
