Weird emails from Jagex (2 of them)

I'm not sure if these are legit, but I can tell you I was pretty worried when I saw them:

I got the "account notice" email on the 22nd, 23 and 25th as well as another odd email regarding VIP access to a new Jagex game: 8Realms...

Something I found odd is this is an email I use strictly for my MSN account and I have NOT signed up anywhere on this, as I use another email, therefore I haven't linked any RS account to this...

It was sent to junk, but how did they grab my email?

EDIT: I opened the email (of course), can I get infected?

If you didn't give Jagex your e-mail then it's not Jagex. The sites seem legit though.

EDIT: First one is real, others have received this. Unsure about second one.

It is all completely fake. Do NOT enter your info on either of the sites. Jagex does NEVER mail you info like this.

Can I still get infected by opening the email from my "junk" folder?

Also...I'm still baffled as to how they got hold of my email

You must have posted your email somewhere on a runescape related forum. Phishers browse these forums and collect emails, then they mass email all of these emails their phish. Why do you even want to open it? It will most likely look real but I can guarantee you its not. Phishers don't steal your information unless you enter it in.

You wont get infected but if you entered your username and password you got phished and I recommend you change your password.

Anything else all information about phishing emails will be in the Account Security Section on the RuneScape Forums

I'm not that gullible but I was just wondering...the second email seemed pretty legit but now that you guys have told me...shit, they made it look so good, even with the copyright info and all...

these are all phishes... Jagex never falters when it comes to breaking their rules and would ban you then you would have to contact them about getting it back, they will not send you emails as a first action on anything like this

Thats how phisers work. They have to look identical otherwise they wouldn't be able to trick people into entering their details.

Can't they get into some serious trouble with Jagex for impersonating copyright data and fraud?

They can, and jagex does tend to take action against phishing type sites.

I'll give you the advice I give to everyone who's unsure about jagex emails - don't ever click a link on them. Check your inbox on runescape.com, if there's nothing in there about it then the email is fake.

    Phishing e-mails mate.

I can tell you personally that I have recieved those exact e-mails. The loyalty one is fairly new I think, as I have only recieved it recently.

It is VERY common though for these phishers to target newcomers to Sythe. Phishers target everybody, but the easiest targets are people who are brand new on Sythe and have their e-mail displayed publically somewhere (their profile, a sales thread etc.). The phisher than snatches up their e-mail address and sends them a very real looking e-mail from "Jagex", that claims that you have been caught RWT'ing, selling your account, etc etc. As you can imagine, this scares the living shit out of alot of people who are brand new in the black market, as they assume the e-mail is real and that their account is in jeopardy.

I had never even seen one of these e-mails until I joined Sythe and started trading, then suddenly my inbox was just swarmed with them. There have even been a few that I have had to post about, or show other people, as they looked so real that I thought they may in fact have been real e-mails from Jagex.

    Be careful in the future!

Obvious phishes, Jagex never email for such reasons, only about membership, e-mail change and account recoveries you have requested.
