[Popular Debate #3] Color or Colour? Which way is better/correct?

Titles says it all...

Personally I am from the USA, so I spell it Color. I know that Colour is "correct" because it was around before color, then Americans made another version. So Colour is correct. But, I think color is better because everybody says it the same, (cul-er) but Colour does not sound like (cul-er) even though it is purnounced like that. Colour should be purnounced (cul-ore), but it is not.

Better - Color

Colour is usually used in English speaking European countries and Canada. The United States use color. Not much to debate really, lol.

 

Colour is correct. Americans were just lazy and couldn't spell

 

@loyal - That is the point of a debate. There are two sides, in this case, American color and European Colour, and you argue which is right and which is better.

@2h - I think Americans corrected the Britishes crappy sues of their own letters.

If it's not a matter of preference, then it depends on where or how you were taught to spell it. I can't really think of a way to argue over the inclusion of a single vowel; I just say "color" because that's the way I was taught to spell it.

They are both correct, but I think its rather stupid that the American's felt the need to drop out the "u". How lazy can you be??

I almost always spell it "colour", but sometimes I have to spell it "color" for things like html coding my threads. I hope I don't develop a habit of spelling it like that

 

Personally I can't stand many of the American "adjustments" to the English language. This is one. Along with analyse/analyze and such. Most of them seem to have originated from poor spelling, basically.

 

Although I am american, I typically spell everything the British way.
(I.E. Analyze, Colour, Armour, etc)

 

Color for me, but it all depends on where you learn/ take education.

I remember I had a spelling test and some kid added an extra 'U' to whatever word and he got marked off for it lol
