Phenom II X6 Vs. Intel core i7

I was wondering which would be better, or if you think something else could be a better option for gaming. I'm wanting to know because i want a good gaming computer that will last me a few years without having to replace it. I mostly play runescape and a few other pc games, but hoping to get a better PC for SWTOR, BF3, and a few others. If you have any insight into the matter please post a reply. Thanks.

Intel obviously. But you can run games fine with an i5 2500k. It's mainly good graphics cards games need.

You haven't told us whether or not price is a factor. Basically all i7s will be better than a PHII X6. The newer Sandy Bridge i7s are top of the line when it comes to CPUs.

As laptop said, the i5 2500k is essentially the same performance of an i7 2600k for what you want to do and it's only $220ish. Not much more than a PHII X6 and it'll completely obliterate it in terms of performance.

Just going to piggyback on what everyone else was saying. The i5 2500k is perfect for every game currently on the market, as well as for future games within the next few years. I personally chose it over the core i7 for gaming needs, as an i7 is just money wasted if you only plan on playing games. Use the extra few-hundred dollars to buy yourself a good graphics card, or see if you can find some decent cards to SLI/Crossfire.

Don't get the phenom. That's what I'm running right now (came with my HP laptop), and I've had nothing but problems with this computer since the day I got it.

But with that said, I have been able to successfully play counterstrike, runescape, and Heroes of Might & Magic, sans lag.
