    *be Careful* New Scam

This might be new, this might be really old...I don't know...BUT it is a GOOD scam...If i hadn't went through so much stuff to make sure I didn't get scammed, I probably would have...

    Basically the scam is this

Someone comes up to you with a story about "A survey about runescape trustworthiness" They will then offer for you to LEND an expensive item to them, while they TRADE the same item to you. Then offer you a "prize" for giving the item back to them (such as dclaws, fury, rsgp, etc...)

What they are doing, is declining the trade and making it look like they traded you the item...the item you would be giving back, is actually YOUR item...

So you LEND them an item and they GIVE you an expensive item?
for what time period did you lend it to them?

It is impossible to steal items with lending as far as I know. The items get moved to a temporarily bank space and the other player get's a temporarily copy of the item that will vanish after a certain amount of time.

I lent them the item "until log out" I then logged out and went to my bank...There was no place for my item in my collection box like there should be...its as if I didn't lend them the item, but I gave them the item...

that is why I posted this...It is VERY convincing because all you're going is lending an item

You had trade off and he declined the trade. You didn't see this and you assume he accepted and you think the one in your inventory is theirs. So you give it back when they never gave anything. It's simple and you are making some deep complicated thing, just turn trade chat on and you will see "Other player has declined trade" instead of "Accepted Trade."

The other day when JaGeX was constantly updating the game it was because they were fixing a lending glitch . I assume this may be it .

@Redmonkey, on the forums they said they can't fix it because it isn't a glitch, it's a scam. They can't help the idiots who fall for it.

It's not a glitch, just a mind game.

First off, I can vouch that there IS INDEED SOMETHING GOING ON. I have had a number of people PM me randomly at the GE, asking if I "feel that I am trustworthy", the basically there story follows the same scenario as Realsies story above. Luckily, I am much smarter than that and I actually totally FUCKED with the last guy who tried this:

Basically, I was PM'ing him shit like "Golly jee! You are so nice", and "Omg, I have a feeling this is going to be the best day on RS I've ever had", while he thought I was on my way to meet him at the GE, and he must have been laughing his ass off at me thinking I was a total oblivious idiot. However, his conscience soon kicked in when I told him I was on my way, I just needed 2 minutes to call my mother and tell her that I was going to soon have 200M that I can sell to pay for Dad's operation  Right after that, all he said was "okay" and then he promptly blocked me. I'm such a troll lol.

This guy's name was "Host Los" on RS, and there was another guy named "Host mammoth", both guys trying the scam to get my santa hat.

    So everybody be careful.

Ill tell you exactly what happens:
They ask you to lend till log out and they pretend to give you their stuff, they decline trade , log out quick. You think you lended stuff and the item in your inv is their item. They log back in, you give it to them thinking its theirs... voila!

Everyone knows borrowed items have the little red dot on them -- so common sense should tell you they're declining the trade, and that you haven't borrowed anything.

Also, if you put chat on 'hide' while in busy places (like the GE) you'll clearly see it says "declined trade".

It's quite ingenious. On of the better scams I've seen. As long as people can get make the story sound believable; the scam is viable.

I was a target of this scam yesterday. He made a pretty crap story about getting hacked and required my help to transfer items to his pure. I knew it was some sort of scam the moment he started but I found out how the lending system scam worked from him.
