Why does christmas lose its charm?

I remember when I was younger, and every day of the year was spent looking forward to christmas. December used to be the longest, but best month of the year just waiting for that day. I loved sledding and decorating the house, and watching claymation movies, but now, its just another day. I mean even after I found out santa wasn't real christmas was great.

Why do you think christmas loses its charm, and has it happened to you?

Why does christmas lose its charm?

It's because it is over commercialized honestly.

This. It's just commercialisation and a way for companies to mass dump their products on consumers.

    You're older now.

And in the opinion of over-commercialization, that's definitely true as well. When companies shove Christmas down your throat in November, and stores start stocking Christmas crap in October, the whole holiday spirit and month of December loses its Christmas association. Also there's no snow here this year for Christmas.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

As you get older it just gets worse and worse in my opinion. Most people know what they're getting or they just don't really want/need anything else. (At least in my case.) It was always so great when I was younger, but yeah it definitely has lost it's charm I think.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

That very reason. When you're a kid, there's nothing better than Christmas, it truly is the best day of the year. You don't have any school, no worries, nothing but a beautifully decorated tree that's trunk is suffocated with presents with your name on, a delicious family dinner and the best Christmas specials airing 24/7 on TV.

When you're older, you have far too many worries and shit on your mind to focus on getting into the Christmas spirit, and usually as you get older, your parents generally stop making the occasion so special.

because the more you do something, the less appealing it becomes. maybe its just you maturing or getting used to it as you grow. for example you rarely see adults get as excited about Christmas as their children. and when they do its to keep their kids happy

Why does christmas lose its charm?

I still get pretty excited for Christmas, but it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be :/

When I was a kid for the week or two leading up to Christmas I'd literally watch/listen to Christmas themed shows/songs nonstop lol. We'd always be doing something like decorating the house, making Christmas cookies, etc. All of that seemed to stop or become less enjoyable as time went on :/. I think it's the fact that I get bombarded with advertisements and whatnot as well as I pretty much know what I'm gonna get every year before I get it. When you're a kid it's easy because your parents could just go buy a million toys and pretty much there was no way for them to choose something bad lol.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

I'm pretty sure it happens to everyone. The older you get, the less exciting it gets. Don't get me wrong though, I love getting presents and can't wait until Christmas.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

I dont believe its that its gotten anymore commercialized, its just that youve grown up and youve lost that feeling of wonder and imagination that you used to have when you were younger because of inexperience and lack of knowing. This will be my first time being at home in Christmas in the past 3 years, very excited!

Why does christmas lose its charm?

Most of the time, as you get older...(especially when you hit your 20's+) you lose interest in christmas. You probably don't get many presents, you end up having to spend a fortune on presents for other people. If you do get presents, most likely you know what it is.

Also, rather then having it be an awesome time where you can just relax and have no school/worries...You end up having to work up until christmas...

There is just not much time to get into the holiday spirit anymore, imo...

Why does christmas lose its charm?

2 years ago, was the last Christmas I was excited for.

I guess as I grew older, and my family drifted apart, it's just lost it's charm tbh.

Possibly different for you guys, but I lost basically my step mum, so last Christmas was just my dads side of the family. Then this year, I moved so I have no family but my dad & little brother here for xmas.

Wbu guys, when did you lose the 'spark' & how?

Why does christmas lose its charm?

As I got older, for me it became more of a way to see family, than about presents, and a meal etc.

As I don't live at home, Christmas gives me an opportunity to see those I haven't seen for months on end, which is quite frankly priceless.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

This is true. This year, I could really care less. I actually forgot that its Xmas in only a few days. LIfe has became hectic and workaholic for me, that I really forget the holidays exist. It's all about spending time with family and your friends for me. I could really care less of presents/gifts anymore.

My family even decided that we buy our own presents or whatever we feel like. It's mainly for the kids as it's always an amazing feeling to see their faces light up when they get something they want.

Still though it's like as you are older you only care about how happy other people are than yourself which I think is a good thing. :)

Why does christmas lose its charm?

Like many have said, the more you do something the worse it gets. This can be solved by mixing it up every year, lets say go on a vacation to different places but most can't afford or don't have the time to do this. Really as you get older christmas will be dull and routine until you have kids. Then once they get older it is dull once again Xd

    Your so cool man.

Christmas is losing its charm for me as well. I think it just might be that I'm getting older.

Why does christmas lose its charm?

It's so true. Lately I've been really depressed because it just doesn't mean anything to me anymore. Getting new things and spending time with my family just isn't exciting as it used to be. I guess when you grow up it becomes more work then pleasure.
