The most expensive game ever made sold 2.3 million copies on day of release. Who's playing it? Thoughts?

I've been playing it for about 6 days now [with early access] and it's wonderful.

They say that they needed to ship 500k units to make a profit, and it's clear that they have well surpassed that.

As futures for SW:TOR are concerned, I'm excited to see Guilds picking up Capitol Ship class cruisers in the future, as a part of what I'm sure will be open-flight space adventures in the coming year. Though all of these details have been given the run-around, they say that space is going to have loads of updates done to what is an already very strong presentation.

If you're interested in looking me up, the name is "VisionEx" on the server "Black Vulkars." I am a Republic Smuggler. If you go Sith, I have a bit of a reputation for raping people in PvP -- Especially 1v1.

Hope to see more people joining my guild as well. Shotgun Mouthwash. I have full forums hosting and I'm building a Vent server up for us right now.

Can you explain the basic premise behind it? I love Star Wars, but there just seems be many other good games out there.

"The premise" will vary depending on which class you choose.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a deeply constructed Galaxy set in the time of "The Old Republic" approximately 500 years before the time of the 6-Part film series known today.

Having fully-voiced actor roles for every NPC in the game, quests gain a sense of immersion and theater as you roam the galaxy's inhabitable systems. Engage in fighter combat during space missions, destroy the scum of the Galaxy as you fight off opposition in "Flashpoints," and build wealth unimaginable with a melody of "Crew Skills," usable by any of your [up to] 5 person crew.

Haha yup im not surprised, was watching my mate login for the first time there is over 150 US servers alone, and over half of the servers were near full on day of release.

Crazy i wonder what Diablo 3 is going to be like.

The game play looks good. Just like many Rpg's it has many classes, within each race and all specialize in a different area.. looks like a sweet game to get into.

The reason that they had so many full servers on "release day" was due to their launching the game on a progressive scale.

For the million or so pre-order copies, users were allowed up to 7 days of early access. The earlier you adopted to the pre-order, the more free play time you could receive. I personally was allowed a jump-start of 5 days' time, leaving my main character at level 27 [of 50] at launch.

More importantly, this early access transitional phase allowed Bioware to not have to concern themselves with overpopulated servers, as they could launch more as needed during scheduled maintenance days, today being the last of them. Additionally, this allows users to not feel crowded in earlier leveling areas, and everyone got their fair share of monsters, World bosses, and item interactions. never must you wait more than 30 seconds to pick up a quest item -- even if the jerk right in front of you just stole it, while you conquered the big bad that was in your way.

It's a nice title, with a very strong launch, and to be honest, I'm surprised that we haven't seen Sythe.org pick up on the [more than] 3 million copies shipped to date, and start building those market forums.

I'm so tempted to buy it right now, as I am bored of WoW and desperately need an MMO before Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 come out.

However, I literally have NO knowledge of star wars. I have never watched any of the films, which worries me as I may not be able to enjoy the game because of this.

What do you think? Will I still be able to follow, understand and enjoy it?

It's well constructed and deep. You might miss out on a lot of the jokes, but if you watch the films in the coming week then start up the game, you're going to get a lot more insider jokes [mostly used in guild names, or other user content.]

I don't think you would find it dissatisfying, as most people would prefer the Jedi, and I chose a Smuggler, which I am very happy with - though the film series generally focuses on Jedi.

So are things like, for example, skill/spell names relevant to the films? Am I going to need to have background knowledge to make it easier for me to play and enjoy, basically.

No. The movies just have bad-ass action sword fights. You will need to learn the benefits of different spells in different situations regardless of having watched the movies/television shows.

It's a shame it will be another 3 months before the Australian/NZ version of this is released. Currently we can't even order it from the official site. Of course we can buy it off like Amazon or something and play on US servers, but I think I'll prefer to wait to play on local servers :D.

I do appreciate an MMO finally making servers based in Australia though. Shows they care.

If you're interested, I know that Australian users actually are working out of a specific "unofficial Oceanic" server. I can get you the details on which server names this may occur on, if you like? One of my close international friends have been playing since Beta stage 2, and his guild set which server they were going to assemble on weeks before launch.

Keep in mind, this server is currently a US West server, but there will be users of Australian and American roots on, so PVP will be an option at any hour of the day.

Ah thanks, but I think I will wait for Australian servers to come so I can play at a nice low ping (which would be something I have rarely ever experienced in an MMO :p). Thanks anyway though.

It takes a while to download. The total file is around 18GB if I'm correct and running 450kb/s is not very good...

    Game Installer Download.

The game is a MUST BUY for every MMO Pay2Play Fan, Player & Gamer. Better than WoW + Aion + Guild Wars. Gameplay + commentary.

Had the game for a few weeks now and have hit 50 and been messing around endgame. Overall the leveling experience was much more in depth then it was in wow, although at times it was frustrating to have a lack of "grindy" quests- I found I was bouncing around different worlds too often while not gaining much experience per world. Was much faster then wow though so was all good in the end x).

Endgame has got quite repetitive though- there's just not much to do. Once you have farmed out most of your columi/champion gear the raids/hm fps get way too easy (I mean GP is a joke no matter what your gear is like lol) theres just not that much to do. I feel that grabbing all your gear is far too easy as well. The way luck plays a major roll in the champion bags/reverse engineering for schematics is also something I don't enjoy T.T
