    Understanding Jagex's Perspective on RWT

Quite a lot of the community have Recently become scared to do any trading in general, I'm hoping this will wear off fairly quickly so the black market community is back to its good old self. Well explained though, I can see the panic this will have caused.

Really nice thread as usual R2, I read the whole thing.

I do have one question and that is how do they know when to reset someones bank...

Is it they're giving away mass items on that account or what?

This was pretty well thought out, gotta agree on pretty much every point. I remember 2006-2007 very well. People like Cursed You getting banned for RWT left and right. Now you only gotta be cautious if you are SELLING high volume of GP regularly.

Jagex is being very careful who they reset. At the moment they mainly target accounts which are trading heavy amounts (500M-1B+ per day) and which show general patterns of RWT. They reset accounts manually, meaning the possibility of being falsely hit is fairly low.

Even for big traders like myself, I rarely get hit more than once per month.

Say you made a new account everyday and xfered after you were done couldn't you just keep doing that over and over...? Or did they reset IPs?

What about rares? Why don't you just hold rares like partyhats instead of Pure GP?

Nice to see a fellow seller write such an informative article. I had been very concerned about selling directly to buyers. Offloaded 20b to bulk buyers in small amounts.

I guess I'll be going back to selling to buyers. The price on PA has been hovering around $.60/m.

R2. Just curious. Do you generally see gold prices go up near Christmas due to discretionary spending during the holidays?

Demand has always increased around the holidays as people tend to spend more money, and have more free time. Gold prices have also gone up recently due to resets and bot updates, which have decreased supply.

    + DEMAND
    - SUPPLY
    ++ PRICE

No ones worried about being banned, they are worried about their wealth be wiped by jagex.

    Good to know. Thanks.

Would love the good ole days of $4/m. Last time that happened was due to the only possibility of trading through BH, boy that was a pain. I'd rather have $.5/m and free trade.

It's too bad Jagex doesn't go the way of Diablo III and their Real-World market. I'd be fine with Jagex taking a percentage of real world trades and subsidizing membership costs.

What Jagex doesn't realize is that RWT can increase the popularity of a game. The prospect of earning a good deal of money from a PVM drop or staking is a huge motivating factor. Conversely, the prospect of not having to spend a lot of time playing and instead purchasing gold can attract players.

Awesome read R2 :) I read every word.

Hopefully this clears things up for people who are feeling nervous/uneasy about buying gold. Personally, I have never bought a large amount of anything and I've always feel safe. I think its more obvious than ever right now that Jagex took a big hit after the whole bot nuke, and are now trying to rebuild RS with new long term players, more subscriptions, and more income for themselves through many different sorts of methods.

I really feel for all you big sellers that have been wiped upwards of 20B though.. that seriously must suck watching $10,000 being flushed down the toilet.

Once again, they should not be worried about either. Jagex does not reset regular buyers.

What if you bought a very large amount of gold (a few bil)? Would it be more likely that they would wipe you because theres a chance you would just be planning on reselling it?

Excellent read. My question. Would a seller, selling 2b-5b a month to bulk buyers have to be nervous about a rollback?

I'm not entirely sure as have never bought/sold anything near that amount... but I think it would be wise to be extra careful if I were you. If your selling a few billion GP per month, you would probably fall in to that "medium volume" range he was talking about, or maybe even tipping towards the "large volume" end of the scale.

Better safe than sorry though right? ;)
