    Nvidia driver stopped responding?

Basically, ever since last night my display driver has frequently stopped responding, then recovers. It happens about every 5 minutes and I really don't know why. I haven't installed anything recently that would cause this.

I've updated all my drivers and even switched to the beta 290 driver thinking it would make a difference, (that's what you see in the picture, but my previous version was 285.62). I've set the physx from auto select to my gpu, as I saw suggested on other forums. Restarted. Tried not using dual monitors. My GPU is running steady at 144F, so it's not overheating. My laptop never has any performance issues. I'm not doing anything that's graphic intense. (last time it happened, I just tried to click the refresh button on a chrome tab with facebook.) I"m not gaming while it's happening, although I did have a pretty rowdy session yesterday evening. I made the mistake of not having any restore points that I can go back to, so that's out of the question.

Apparently after googling the problem a lot of other people are having it but the cause eludes me.. Keep in mind it's a laptop.

If anyone has any suggestions or anything I may be missing, it's appreciated.
If you need any more info, just ask.

    thanks.

Here's my specs incase it helps anyone.

Ah I mostly looked at the pictures...

I'm stumped, but is upgrading your RAM on a laptop as much as a no-brainer as a desktop or is it complicated? I'm asking this because I doubt it came with 2.0ghz and 8GB of RAM :p

Pretty much, mine is a pain in the ass though, that's why I haven't upgraded to 16 yet. It came with 8gb of ram. The processor is a quad-core i7 2630QM, 2.0ghz, but it turbo's up to 2.9. My laptop is a fucking beast. =]

On topic though, no idea's huh?

If you can't pinpoint a software related cause, then it has to be the hardware. IMO if you had not done any driver updates or anything that could have fussed with your video card in the time leading up to the problem I'd say something is wrong with the card itself. Call up ASUS and see what they have to say.

On a related note, my girlfriend's desktop has similar issues where sometimes I'll be playing a game or something and it'll give me a CTD then the driver will crash and take a second to restart. I'm waiting on them to give me the go-ahead to replace the card and hopefully that'll fix the issue. I'll let you know if it remedies it since your problems are probably related.

    Nvidia driver stopped responding?

It seems to be an nvidia problem in general. I have 2x GTX 480's in my current PC and I occasionally get this problem.

In my old PC, I had an Nvidia 7950 GT and that card also gave me the occasional driver crash.

In my LAPTOP... I have the Nvidia Geforce GTX 360M, and I've also experienced the error there.

I've yet to pinpoint the cause of the problem on my current system, nor did I ever pinpoint it on my old system or the laptop....

As to why you're getting it so frequently.. That I cannot explain, but it may be worth taking a moment to try and COMPLETELY uninstall your GFX drivers (after uninstalling, run CCLeaner to clean up any remaining registry entries and such) and then install them again fresh. That MAY help.

I dunno man, I've always had NVIDIA cards and not run into these problems. My GTX 480 on my home PC has run flawlessly, as did the GTX 460 and GTS 450 that preceded it. I had a 6150SE back in the day as well that ran fine.

I'm not saying there's no way it's driver issues, but if he didn't mess with them and it was working fine beforehand I have a hard time seeing how a problem of this magnitude could suddenly appear. It the drivers were unstable from the get-go, I would think he would have had these kind of errors constantly from day one. That's why I think it's a hardware thing. For you, it's probably because of SLI.

I'm sure one of these options will help:

Try setting a lower or a higher clock speed on your GFX card.

Try using an older driver like the 275.33 you should be able to find it on the Nvidia site or pcidatabase.com

I'm not sure what happened, what was happening, or what I did, but it doesn't crash anymore. Problem solved on it's own after a whole day and a half of nonsense.
    Thanks for the help guys,
    close please.
