I have been reading through the runescape "account help" forums, and it seems there's atleast one problem that seems to be recurrent and common after that stupid website update happened. This issue deals with account recovery. Sure, some people are trying to recover accounts that aren't theirs(that will always be around), but there are also very many honest people who are unable to recover their account due to fagex. I have been one of them. I have put previous payments made to them, zip codes, original passwords, you name it I put it. I haven't moved at all so don't waste my time with that. Also, don't waste my time if you're going to accuse me of hijacking or trying to recover a bought account when this is clearly MINE. Jagex hasn't done a great job in helping their customers, but now this problem will definitely cause them to lose good business with "real people."

This is true, however it is for good reason. Of course, I do not know your particular scenario, but Jagex makes it very hard to recover accounts because there is such an abundance of hackers/phishers/you name it.

Well, I honestly don't remember my account creation date because this account was created a while back before I decided to turn it in to a good account. I also submitted a recovery to another account recently made, and it was recovered no problem(put half the info wrong). So there's definitely something going on with the system. Veteran accounts maybe harder to get?

When I quit I forgot the password for my main all I needed was recovery questions and member details and It recovered. This was only a few months ago so I really haven't had a problem with it. I do pity those who can't get back their accounts though from this.

I'm yet to experience the recovery system on Runescape, haven't been hacked or needed to recover an account since 2006. Regardless, I can imagine the idiocy and stupidity Jagex is performing, considering all of these new updates which only ruin the game. (Highscores = Mem only)

I tried recovering my main about 5 hours ago and a couple of hours ago, and still haven't had a reply! I've put previous passwords in, ISP's, year created, no reply either say accepted or denied and I really want my acc back. :(

Before the update, I was able to recover my account no problem. I assumed it'd be safe to say that I wouldn't have to worry about losing my account through hackers... Well, I was right! I didn't lose my account to hackers, I lost it to Fagex! Of course they claim it's probably my account and to put any other info such as previous passes, etc. Of course the forum and j mods aren't any help..

I've never had an issue with recovering my old accounts. In one case, I hadn't logged into a certain account for around 6 years, yet managed to recover it based on the first passwords, date of creation, and original ISP, which is something that I, the original owner, would only know.

I have not needed to recover an account in many months, so I wouldn't know whether the system has recently been changed, but I would have to assume you are not supplying a sufficient amount of accurate historical information about the account, since you've stated that you are the original owner, and that is why your recovery attempts have been unsuccessful. It would make no sense for Jagex to have a faulty recovery system in place.

I support making the process more difficult to foil the hackers/phishers from recovering accounts that do not belong to them. But when the system prevents honest, legitimate players from having access to their own accounts, even from their original IP address, this is a major problem.

As long as you have almost all the basic creation info, submit from the original IP or close to the same area if you've moved, and know most of the intimate account details, I don't see why Jagex should deny your appeal. If you gave out that info to somebody then its your own fault if your appeal is being denied. But for people who have never sold their accounts and are submitting an appeal from their original IP, with original creation info, and are unable to get their accounts back? That really sucks and needs to be dealt with.

I'm a legit player(honestly) and am very frustrated by it. I don't think a hacker could prove payments or give original passwords... I just tried to recover another acc that I made recently again and I barely put any info and put some wrong answers, but still got it back... Very odd. It has to be a glitch(fagex won't admit it is).

I have been trying to recover a account I made like 7 months ago, it's just a level 3 but has a really nice name. I know I am getting at least 90%+ info correct but apparently that's not good enough for jagex. Maybe this has something to do with it?

Gratz(sadly). You're now seeing the hell I'm going through(even though I got an account worth nearly $1000).

Account recovery is a huge issue, they are attempting to stop people from recovering accounts and at the same time are making it difficult for people to recover their own accounts. something dealing with the accounts first ip created should be used to recover an account.

    I've had problems too.

my account was a member for 2+ years but for some reason the "membership detail" area on the appeal form isn't there, y'know, where you put in former transaction I.D's , Post/zip code , duration of membership etc.

I've gave them my former registered e-mail , plenty of passwords, I.P address. you name it. still nothing.

It was my main too :( stuck with a level 40 now .

as long as you have the creation date, isp created with, or even better ip created with and the first few password it should be a guaranteed success
