I think adding this to the rules to clear some stuff up because personally i got infracted about 3-4 times which ended up in a 3 day ban but enough about that

Make this an example in the rules for spam

Please Read the stickies next time = spam
    Needs Pics = spam

any thoughts on this because from my reading of the rules the only thing it comes close to is this
but it kinda does have relevence because it is informing them of the rules

    your thoughts on this??

Agreed, but as N4N0 once said "The average sythe user is fucking stupid" (see stui's sig [original poster]) and it seems unfair to infract people (can lead to a ban) when they are never told not to do what they did. It honestly would not hurt to add it in the rules. Then if the user is too stupid to stay with the rules, he gets infracted.

Personally, I have gotten infracted 3 times, all for spam, all three times where on topic of the thread, just short... No where in the rules does it say it can't be short, it just says it must be on topic and useful. They were! Who says useful things can't be small or short?

Not that I see this as a problem, I just support the idea of notifying the average sythe user of the dangers and rules!

    That's my say,

Yeah you shouldn't have to tell people if they are ignoring stickies report it so a mod can take care of it...

No support, a user should read the rules and stickies before posting. I know some don't, but that's their own fault. Infractions show you where you went wrong as well as give a warning to you.

If somebody posts and its obvious they didn't read the stickies, you shouldn't really bother posting on their topic unless it is with advice that is actually helpful to that person. I do this sometimes, and I gently remind that person of their mistake, point them in the right direction, provide a link, and maybe a light warning to read all the stickies to avoid being infracted and having their threads constantly locked. Otherwise, you should really just ignore the post completely, except for pressing the report button up in the corner to forward it on to the mods.

That is generally what I do, and I am yet to get in trouble with any of the mods in that situation. If you just post "read tha stickiez" or "u need pics", your comment is just plain unhelpful and pointless, and would definitely be considered spam. It is all just common sense really.

There used to be a term used back in the day called "Backseat Moderating" - some older members still hold infractions with that exact title.
If you see a post, thread, or a member in the wrong - report it. It's common sense really...

I think you've both misinterpreted his suggestion (unless I have of course), otherwise I think he's referring to the current rule "Posting comments with little to no relevance to the topic" which should be defined clearer in the official Sythe rules thread.

He has personally been infracted for assisting other members by pointing out the stickies in the relevant section and by giving them a heads up about requiring an image to any relevant topic.

However the term 'backseat moderating' goes far beyond simply those points..

OT: The Official Sythe Rules definitely need to be defined clearer and if this is what you're trying to suggest, then I support it.

You're not the first person to create a suggestion about it either.

Four of the posts he was infracted for.

On a related note, I honestly don't think we need to define the rules of spamming even further. The definition of "Posting comments with little to no relevance to the topic" is more than enough - as if your post is not related to the service or buying/selling/trading with the Original Poster, then it doesn't have relevance to the topic. Simple :)

Yes, if you see a problem, you do no need to worry about posting on the thread (1 - it spams up a potentially legit thread and 2 - it could be a mistake.) all you need to do is to pm a mod and give them the link.

I like the backseat moderating thing, if the infraction was approved by a real mod, it doesn't matter if the mod found it or if a normal member. I good idea is that whenever a new mod gets recruited, he must serve 1 month undercover. This means he will be a mod, but without a badge. He can help with many things from finding spam to catching a scammer who won't trade mods because of the risk (but they will trade the undercover mod not knowing) After serving 1 month the undercover mod is now official!

Oh, I would also definitely consider those as spam.

However if he had stated the relevance of the comment 'need pics' and rephrased it to something such as 'An image of you completing a Firecape service is required' is something which I wouldn't call spam, but I know others might.

And it's not simply that particular section of the rules which needs further definition.

Finally, "Posting comments with little to no relevance to the topic" is not the only extended definition to spam.
