    Drinking age - 18 or 21?

Its just taboo in the United States because of the 21 year drinking age. There should be no debate over this.. If you are an adult(responsible for your actions) then you should be able to choose whether or not you want to drink. It's just hypocrisy at its finest. Either you: A) Want the drinking age to be 18 or B) Want the legal adult age to be 21.

    21. Doesn't really matter, kids are going to get alcohol either way.

But how they get it is the question. 18-20 years of age is not "kids", but a legal adult. Would you rather your kids(hypothetically) be binge drinking with other immature kids in a basement with no supervision or at a bar where it is the bartenders responsibility to make sure you are safe and get home in one piece.

^ This is pretty much the same as me, except I was alot younger when I was in the Netherlands.

I dunno if it'd actually work in the States though, Germany kinda has it as a lifestyle and enjoyment, not necessarily to get plastered all the time

    16 here for <15%
    18 for >15%

21 is just too much in my opinion.

"Legal". Thats just it, they are legally adults, but so many don't act like it. Also What makes you say they still won't drink outside of bars? Everyone I know that drinks does it at their house, other peoples houses, or someones party. They rarely go to bars.

Prohibition proved people will drink. They will always find someone to obtain alcohol so the age doesn't matter. I think they should have no age limit for home use, but have something like 18 for public use. I don't drink because I am underage and because its not that important to me. I don't care to have it unlike so many other kids. One big reason kids drink is because they think its so cool and fun stuff happens when they drunk. That will always be their mindset until they mature. That won't happen until they have real responsibility and get their self together. Then again some people never out grow that mindset.

It's 18 here, and I think it should be 18 everywhere. Drugs are already cheaper then alcohol, bumping the age would just further promote illicit drug use, as it is in most cases easier for a minor to get hold of.

And how else are they going to learn without experience. Besides, a person's age doesn't indicate their level of maturity. I know just as many immature 25 yearolds as I do immature minors. And why 25? That's even more arbitrary than 21.

I think you should be 16 to drink it like everywhere else, but 18 to purchase it, and in a pub you should be able to purchase 2 pints or the equal units maximum at the age of 16, drinking mostly is fun, yes they are dangers, but if you're gonna get hammered, your fault if anything happens.

    Drinking age - 18 or 21?

I would say 18 is an appropriate age, considering most adults do drink.
The only concern that I have is the "binge drinking" - people who have just turned 18 have no idea how to drink, and half the time almost kill themselves "trying to get fucked up"

I'm pretty sure the drinking age is 21 because your body produces enzymes that can battle the toxic alchohol. <--- Pretty sure I learned this in gradeschool in D.A.R.E.

    Drinking age - 18 or 21?

I honestly don't care. The drinking age should be 18, but the USA will never change it.

I'm now 20, and have been drinking since 16. I honestly do believe the first few times I drank gave me a respect for the effects of alcohol and taught me just how much I can/should drink. It's better to fuck up a few times drinking when you're in high school/college, and not in the real world where people start to care.

Learn your limits early, so you can drink "responsibly" in the future.

An idea I've always had was you should be able to drink once completion of high school or your obtain your G.E.D. Otherwise you have to wait until the age of 21. This would eliminate the "immature drinkers."

If one is old enough to die in the army then one is old enough to drink alcohol.

Ya that's a good point. Puts down the whole maturity debate. If we trust 18 year old's to arm themselves and represent this country during war, they should be allowed to drink.

Similarly to how politicians are elected to serve the peoples interest, but so many end up serving their own or someone else.

The demeanor of the "legal" adults is irrelevant. Once you are legal, you are responsible for your actions(taxes, serving the full time of military contracts if you are serving, etc). By having a 21 y/o drinking age we are saying that 18 is "legal" not "legal legal". Kind of dumb if you ask me because the law treats an 18 y/o and 21 y/o the same.

That's the mindset most underage drinkers(18-20) have because even the dumbest teenagers/young adults can see the hypocrisy of a 21 y/o drinking age.
