What's a civil torts case?

So I heard that selling RSGP isn't illegal such that a criminal offense is obtainable, but that civil torts case can very well be put against you by Jagex. What's the worse that can happen to you in a civil torts case by selling RSGP? I live in Canada so it'd help if canadian law examples are given but any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A tort would be a case brought against someone who has commited a breach of civil duty, not including any contractual obligations.

 

There is basically a 0.00001% chance that Jagex would bring this upon you unless you are a huge company selling bil's a day and making excessive amount of money.

 

There are thousands and thousands of court cases which a lawyer can cite for precedent as grounds for a case; I'm sure one case has happened which Jagex can use on their side. However, the simple fact is that it's expensive to hire lawyers to do this type of research. I'm more than willing to bet that we're all safe, and if Jagex decided to sue somebody it would be Gold4Fun or another resale site. They're not going to target somebody who purchased or sold anything less than 100s of billions.

 

I'm pretty sure the only country with concrete precedent on the value of virtual assets within a video game is the Netherlands.

 

They are mostly worried about the Chinese gold sellers.
