WD My Book 3TB HD Help

So I have a 3TB external harddrive and i recycled my old laptop and bought a new one through staples. So I go to transfer some of my files over to my new laptop and what i find is that I do not have access to this folder so I went to the security tab and made myself and owner as I deleted the other laptop's account. The problem now faces me that:

I can get into the folder but I cannot access any of the files that are already on the folder. I have tried changing my permissions but everytime I do, I get an "access denied" icon that pops up.

 

Can you access the data on that hard drive on another system?
Was the hard external hard drive working ok the last time you used it?
Has it ever done this before?

 

i cannot access it on other computers either.

This has been used on another computer (the one i orig used)

Never has happened before.


i made myself the owner of the files so i can see what is inside of them but i cannot load the files up

 

If you can't access it on other computers then there is the slightest chance it may have just failed. When you plug it in do you hear it spinning?

But you can't access ANYTHING on it at all?

 

It because since Vista, files are protected with password to the user.

Use something like Recuva, in Administrator mode.

 

its windows 7 on both PC's

 

When you connect it to your PC, does it show up in 'My Computer'?

 

7 was after Vista, so has the same protecting shit.

Use a software.
