Quite sad, doesn't prove anything except for the fact that given the opportunity, a few Sythe members would scam.

If you really want to get rid of scammers, the look at the market and weed out people buying 2-3b through paypal for 1.00 per million.

I mean seriously? One of the saddest things I have seen on Sythe thus far.

Just immature and wrong.

 

The purpose of this wasn't to "experiment" or "prove" anything. It was to find potential scammers and ban them before they could scam.

 

every fish will take bait, but for some fish it just takes the right amount. Given the right amount, I have no doubt in my mind that most people here would jump at an opportunity. This sorta reminds me of how Finn banned someone for setting up someone to get banned. The user posted asking for a software and someone responded with a Warez link and the user that requested it reported the person and later that day, both of them got banned.

Really immature.

 

If you want to find potential scammers, simply look all over the forums. They are EVERYWHERE!!!!

You dont need to fake an MSN hacking to ban members of sythe.

 

I commend the staff on banning the list of members, but this could have been handled differently.

I gotta go with Viou on this one.

 

Govind, I applaud you and n4n0's efforts to try and creatively rid this wonderful community of just a few more scumbag scammers, but I wish that your this whole scheme had been executed in a far more honest way.

When it comes down to it, I still largely respect both of you & all the other Mods on this site. But I think what people are most upset with is the level of dishonesty and deceit that was used to disguise your intentions with this whole sting operation. Many of us were very shocked, and genuinely concerned about n4n0 and felt very sorry for him and just wanted to help the poor guy. To find out it was all just a big hoax kind of stings a little, to be frank.

Is Sythe now rid of another 20+ "potential" scammers that could have possibly scammed in the future? Yes. Could you guys have thought up another creative way to weed out some potential scammers from the community, without lying to everybody and leading us on? Yes, you probably could have.

In the end, I think your intentions were indeed good ones, and you probably didn't consider that the community would be upset with your course of action because you are just trying to make Sythe a better place. But I want to feel that I can trust the Mods here, and that in the future we are not going to be lied to about very serious situations like a Mod having his/her MSN hacked, or be "lured" into situations that are intentionally meant to be tempting to expose and exploit a person's dishonesty, or maybe even in some cases, a person's desperation.

 

You can't claim entrapment unless the users were FORCED to claim they were scammed. This is not entrapment, since the intent was there. All the staff did was display a door, it was up to the users whether or not they went through it.

If the staff pushed the users through the door, then yes, entrapment and it's wrong.

Overall I say +1, finally taking a pro-active approach to weeding out the dishonest users.

 

Glad to get rid of the scum and to move sythe on as a community.

It's an interesting situation. Obviously there are some community members who are disappointed with this predicament. As a result, there's an internal discussion regarding this sort of operation in the future and how they should be put into action. Please remember to provide productive feedback. Insulting the staff doesn't help us improve.

 

Not too many words but "sad" that can describe this type of predicament.

 

If you wanted this to work in the future, don't tell the community about this incident and just ban the offenders.

 

We didn't want people to think that n4n0 had faked the hacking so he could get away with scamming a ton of people.

 

Interesting play.. Sadly "faked hackings" are too common (not this kind). And this just reminds me of that.

But the fact that scammers were exposed and removed (Lol at TTB) is positive.

Pulling a stunt like this is seriously a waste of time, in my opinion. You caught a few no-names, a $100 donator, and a member that is already banned. As Sarco said in IRC "Well, this is the problem with opportunists. People who arent bad people, but in a situation with a high enough success chance, are willing to be bad." Who will give this opportunity to a leecher in any other situation? No one because the majority of this site isn't that stupid. What would happen if a normal member tried to pull this sting operation? Many of the members of this community, myself and many others included, were going to step up and provide any assistance we could and how does this make us feel? Like we were stupid, but I suppose no good deed goes unpunished.
