And I agree with this. I mean, glad to see that a few dishonest people are gone... but to stage something and blow it up to this extent. Is sort of contradicting what the staff is supposed to be "honest".

Nonetheless though.. good job, disappointed at time to buy. I didn't know him for long, but don't understand why a $100 would lie and then try to say he was helping.

Edit: I thought it was a little fishy that he "hacker" didn't use a proxy.

 

Of all the users who posted claiming to be scammed, only 2 registered after the thread was posted.

 

What you guys did was very creative, but what if something like this really does happen to n4n0 or someone else next time? People might be hesitant to offer their help because they have reason to believe it might just be another staged event. Personally, I'm happy to see that nothing really happened and you caught a number of dishonest people before they scammed anybody. Hopefully this doesn't happen for real... ever lol.

 

Yes, you've found one bracket of dishonest users. Fact is, this site is a cesspool for dishonesty, and this won't change that. A sting should scare people from committing a crime.

In the case of prostitution, having a cop act as a prostitute deters solicitors from searching out a prostitute, because there is a chance they will be a cop.

In this situation, the sting deters people from:

- Framing others (not actually a serious problem here)
- Trusting Staff (bad for Sythe)

It does NOT deter people from scamming another user, or deceiving another user, because this sting has no effect on the outcome of those actions. Stings should act as DETERRENTS.

 

I believe that framing over hacking is a big problem here. I mean, look how many people jumped on the opportunity. Regardless of what people think of this, it does indicate that there is a problem and that the staff should look at the results and figure out ways to try and prevent or catch framers in the future. I mean, everyone has to agree that some good will come of this.

 

The point of this was to find out which users to ban, not to scare users from scamming.

Are you guys out of your mind? What they did was TRY AND EXPLOIT SOMEONE WHO WAS IN A VULNERABLE POSITION, They wasnt FORCED to post in his thread pretending to be scammed, they did it purposefully to work out money from n4n0 when he couldnt defend himself.

And okay, this had more bans when Shinoda did it, but honestly.. isnt that a g ood thing? just seems like more people trade more safely (as in PMing, etc.).

 

This immature method of entrapment does not balance out to a win by the staff in my book. Many staff members have been dishonest in the past and will be dishonest in the future. Almost everyone has a price, and we saw what many of these banned user's breaking point was. Fact is, it is highly unlikely that many of these users would ever see an opportunity for a trade where they had the option of scamming the amount they were banned. Also, many people don't even use the marketplace, they are just here for the community side of the site.

If I had to go down a list of all the staff members who have scammed in the past, it would be SIGNIFICANTLY longer than the list of irrelevant users that were banned. None of them were staff material, whatever may be claimed. Maybe Time To Buy but I would like to see his evidence on this as I'm inclined to believe that a $100 donor wouldn't go to such a length to get banned over an amount slightly higher than his donation rank.

 

I don't care what his evidence is, if anything, he could have just wrote a note and made a video just incase he did get caught.

He won't be unbanned, just like the rest of the scum bags.

I have to agree with Viou here on this one. I am very disappointed that the staff would spend all this time hatching this elaborate and childish hoax just to entrap a small handful of people (I say small, because the majority of that list appears to just be ban evaders who created accounts purely for the objective of trying to scam n4n0).

Yes, I am glad in one way that our community is now ridden of a few more scumbag greaseballs, but I just honestly feel duped. I felt extremely bad for n4n0 and was trying to imagine the how stressed and overwhelmed this situation must have made him feel. I even offered to contribute a large chunk of my pitiful and puny RS bank just to contribute something to the billions of GP I believe he had to pay back. Now I just feel like a jackass, to be honest.

I am disappointed even further to see the members of this community that got sucked into this whole hoax. Most of those accounts on that list appear to just be ban evaders, who created accounts purely for the purpose of trying to claim they were scammed by n4n0, but Time To Buy? Are you fucking kidding? I am disgusted with him right now as he was somebody I respected and trusted.

I don't even know what else to say. I am just in shock right now, and this whole incident just leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

 

So you'd rather have members on this site who would scam if they saw the opportunity? Or have them banned instead? The method the staff did this wasn't immature, it was fucking genius. I never would've be able to think up something like this. In my opinion this was a great way to catch members who were dishonest and whoever thought it up originally deserves a party hat.

 

Anyone who has any degree of maturity will recognize that the way this was conducted should be admonished.

I agree, Time to Buy shouldn't be banned for this, even if he lied and said he was scammed over a small amount of money, he didn't provide chat logs or even request money back (from what I remember seeing).

I guarantee he's much less likely to scam in the way users normally do on sythe.

 

I don't feel a single bit safer. On the contrary, I feel like a user who can't trust the staff. I don't like that feeling.

 

No one was affected by this other than those users who went out of their way to extort n4n0.

We've considered rewarding those users who offered to help in some way, Zerker.

 

He did, he provided a chat and requested reimbursement.

 

It is highly deceitful and that is the single quality that I wish staff did not possess.
