Because falling means death if you are high enough. I am not afraid of heights, but I have a distinct fear of falling that will occasionally cause crazy nightmares. Sometimes I dream that I am falling forever and it just isn't a sensation I enjoy, but I love to look out from a mountaintop across the land. It's just a personal thing.

Every stable minded human being is afraid of injury/death, and thus, are afraid of anything that causes it. Height does not cause injury, it's the fall.

    Heights & Falling

Because falling doesn't give us the feeling that we're in control.

Yeah I understand. But this is a kind of manipulation that I thought of actually.
I'm not scared of heights but I'm scared of falling too. But to think again, it's similar.

Not for this guy, he has quite few videos of himself balancing at deathly heights.

    Heights don't hurt, landing does.

Just because you're high up, doesn't mean you're going to fall. When you're falling, you're most definitely going to land (unless it's a dream, in which the feeling of falling would not be the same when compared to how it feels to consciously fall.)

    Summed that shit up.

I am so scared of heights but falling does not phase me at all. After jumping out of a plane, you realise that falling with no control (all be it for a short amount of time) is AMAZING.

Yeah. It's the same for me. But I'm wondering also I'm curious about other people's opinion about this.

I wouldn't say it's the idea of falling. It's the idea of death that people are afraid of, which I don't understand because we are living only to die; It's inevitable.
