    Favorite Hunting Memory?

Just post your favorite Hunting memory, so you can boast about it.;)

My favorite memory, was when I saved up just enough to buy my first "Real" Rifle. I had 22's, and other small long rifles, however, I saved enough up to buy the "fabled" Remmington 700 7mm Mag. This was my baby, and It was hunting season, I got pulled for an Elk tag, and got geared up.

I went to my designated hunting area, and baited the area and set up camera's to see what kind of beasts were lurking around. I let everything sit overnight, and slept in my comfy ole treestand.;) The next morning, I reviewed the 4 camera's I had set up. They took pictures upon movement and they took a snapshot every 2 seconds, the first 2 showed nothing. The next showed a raccoon that had a nice pinecone. The last one had a few pictures of another raccoon, and had a beautiful fully racked Elk.

I took all of my gear and started to move over to the area where this elk was at. On my way over to this area, I heard a faint screech, I didn't think much of it, because when you're up in the mountains, you usually hear all sorts of things. As I continued up this hillside, I heard a sudden *Crack*. Immediately, I halted and kneeled down. Luckily, I was downwind of the direction in which I heard the crack. After the first initial crack, more rustling continued on and more sticks getting cracked. Then I saw the beast in person.

He came running out and stopped, staring right at me. I knew I had to stay still because there was a possibility of it being spooked and me losing my chance to take it out. I turned my safety off, *click* and waited for the beast to start moving again. After a good 30 seconds, which seemed like an eternity to me, it turned to the right and started walking broad-sided. It was about 100 yards out, so hitting it wouldn't be a problem, but this beast was massive. It's rack was longer than I was. It walked about 8 steps from it's original position.

After walking 8 steps, it stopped. I raised my rifle up to my shoulder. Took 3 deep breaths, exhaled, and held. Put my crosshairs right behind it's shoulder blade, steadied my aim, and pulled the trigger. The shot was deafening, (Exspecially with a 7mm and no hearing protecting, as I wasn't planning on running into him on the way up to my hide.) This Elk was huge, but was no match for my 7mm. It immediately collapsed on the ground, and died instantly. The shot went through both of the lungs, and the heart- The Perfect Shot-. I went up next to this guy, made sure it was dead, and took my few pics. Before quartering it and bringing it back to my truck:sick:.

Well, that's my favorite hunt, Please tell me yours, I'd love to hear em.;)

When I saw my first deer.

There was a tension in the air from that hadn’t been there a second before. All my senses were heightened. All my focus was on that deer, but I was calm. I was probably calm because I wasn’t going to shoot. Little Mike had said to let the first deer go by and that is what I intended to do. Nevertheless I eased my gun off safety and got the deer in my sights, just to be prepared. This was not a tiny deer but she was certainly not big. She had a coat that seemed to be going to gray in this light and a bit of white around the muzzle. I saw this clearly as the deer continued feeding until she was dead even with us and about 25 yards away. Brian was easing his gun up as well.

Then the deer stopped and looked right at us. We didn’t move and apparently we didn’t register as a threat. After a moment the deer bent down again to continue with its snack. Slowly i reached to open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.

Me and a buddy were walking to the stand for an evening hunt and not really being to quite cause it was still pretty early. His dad told us about putting burnt cork on our faces so the deer wouldn't see them as easy. We had done that to try it out and as we were walking along the path, two does stepped out in front of us. We froze and stood there for a good minute not moving. the finally turned around and walked away. They were only 15 feet away too. It was pretty crazy for them to not be spooked by us. That cork really worked!
