Personally I don't care since I respect Christianity and having those words printed on our bills isn't going to hurt me. I'm not a Christian though so I don't think it's really necessary to have.

How is it violating peoples rights?? Its been here all these years and now people are just now making a fuss about it. Thats like me saying i don't like the statue of liberty because it came from France. Take it down.

Let's be clear: 'In God We Trust' in no way endorses Christianity, nor any other religion. Doing so WOULD be an unconstitutional establishment of religion. I'm fine with the motto, despite having no respect for religion (Christianity included) whatsoever.

It asserts that all Americans trust in a god which implies that all Americans believe in a god. That means it does endorse religion over non-religion and monotheism over polytheism.

Again, it's ceremonial deism. Acknowledging God is not the same as establishing a religion; monotheism is not a religion. Whether or not it is true is that Americans trust in God is a separate issue, unrelated to its constitutionality.

And I believe ceremonial deism is in itself unconstitutional. I couldn't care less about what the supreme court believes as they have also upheld that it is perfectly legal to intern only Japanese peoples during WWII even though it obviously contradicted multiple amendments and this was acknowledged by the government later.

    I put no.

This is because I believe America's motto should be based on the wonderful fact that we are the world's melting pot. Not all people believe in a single deity or "god" and really, why should we trust one? I realize this country was founded by Christians, and that the majority of US citizens are Christian but I think it is unfair to the Agnostics, Hindus ect

    U - Under
    S - Satan's
    A - Authority
Its obvious that the US is controlled by the beast.. So its only right they show respect to their god on what makes them powerful.. Not that I agree with it, but Its only appropriate.

I believe more in conventional 'god' than i do Satan. The concept of Hell, and heaven for that matter is so madly absurd.

(slightly relevant drunken rant- forgive me if im straying from the topic)

There are many things that have lost their meaning but we still keep, I find it appropriate to keep although it may not hold the same meaning but moreso as a tradition.

At the end of the day, having it or not having it does not effect the amount of money for that bill and how many people stare at their money all day wishing it would go away because it's there?

People just want something to complain about and it shouldn't really matter, it's like when people started complaining about how we shouldn't have to say "under god" in the pledge of allegiance (if you're American). Taking it out is just wrong, that's like saying I find all songs that say 'bitch' in them have to be taken out (just trying to find something to compare it to) because it is offensive.

    End of ramble.

And America doesn't do things to disrespect other countries amirite?

Forcing children to say "under God" in classrooms is RIGHT? That is a blatant violation of the first amendment and no matter how much it does not matter to some people, it is not right and should be corrected.

I'm going to be a bit of a hypocrite for a second. The Supreme Court ruled that within schools there is an inherit expectation that you listen to what the people in authority say. This case was about police asking students questions in school without informing them that they had the right to not say anything and it was ruled that it was illegal to question kids in school without informing them that they could not say anything. I believe this logic applies to the pledge and even though it is perfectly legal to not say the pledge, the inherit authority present basically forces the kids to say it. That and many teachers (at least most of mine in grade school) basically said, say the pledge or you are insulting America.

Although when they made the pledge, they probably had Christianity in mind.
However, nowadays God = any religion with a deity.

Therefore, this pledge would be only be inappropriate for atheists.

Children have no established their own beliefs yet and are very easily swayed one way or another. Regardless of what their parents believe, the state should not be influencing children through peer pressure and appeals to authority.

I agree completely, but I forgot to mention it. By pledging to God, it is religious propaganda that instills a belief in God into children, who do not know how to think for themselves.

That is putting personal beliefs to work in government which is very immoral, if you ask me.

Don't you want it removed because of your own personal belief on the statement?
Also don't you mean unethical? Because immoral would be only on your idea of morality not theirs, making it perfectly moral for them.

Really now? I said the pledge every day from kindergarten-Senior year yet I'm an Atheist? Not once did I ever put religion with the pledge, I put it with my country and when I said it I wasn't "brainwashing" myself to believe in god, instead I was respecting my country.

It would make more sense that this could be propaganda if the kids weren't allowed to have any outside interaction than what the government wanted. It's highly unlikely a child will be influenced to religion because of the pledge of allegiance and it would be caused more likely from their family and the society around them.

I've already stated many times my opinion on this thread, multiple times actually to a point where it got frustrating having to explain it. Nor was it actually confronted very well, but essentially I find that if you see the words "under god" and think purely of just religion, then your being very shallow with the pledge and not looking deeper into it.
