^ What he said. With all the things going on lately between the bot nuke, the crackdown on RWT's and gold sellers, and various other things, it appears to me that there has been a million more of these "phishing emails" sent out in various different forms.

I know they look extremely official but DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS! If you think that one of them could possibly be legit, open up your browser and go to www.runescape.com and open your message center. Jagex will always send a message to your ingame inbox if you really do have an offense against you.

There is a 99.99999999999999999% chance that is a phishing email though. Do not trust them, ever.

If you JUST clicked the link, you may be fine... depending on what happened.

Did it open a page that looked very similar/completely identical to the Runescape log in page? Because if it did, THAT is where they get you.. as long as you did not enter your account details then you should be fine.

If you DID in fact enter your username & password and it obviously did not actually log you in, open your browser, go to www.runescape.com and change your password immediately!!!!!

The link you posted is does actually point to runescape.com, so I would conclude that it is possibly legitimate (although you should always try to visit websites containing sensitive information manually, rather than through links, as was stated above). Jagex have been sending emails like these around, though you should remember that phishing emails of this nature outnumber real ones.

If it says runescape.com then you'll be fine. (I think).

    fake jagex email?

Links can be masked to show different things:

    http://www.runescape.com

See? it takes you to google.

Now when you copy/pasted the messages, you copied a real runescape link, but it was covering something other than a runescape.com domain (which was masked by the html or something).

Many people are saying the link you posted is a legitimate runescape.com link -- which it is. But in the email, clicking the link probably takes you to a non runescape.com website (like the link I posted above did). But when you copy/pasted the text, it didn't copy/paste the links redirect.

You can hover your mouse over a link, and most browsers show in the bottom corner of the screen where the link redirects to. If it's not a runescape.com website, don't go to it.

I would suggest you read this, it's pretty basic and easy to understand:
    http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/l=0/sl=0/forums.ws?275,276,2,62906841

The good thing about phishing links, is that they *usually* don't infect you. So if you simply click on them, there's usually no harm done. Just don't enter your password. And if you did, simply change your password.

And, most importantly, NEVER EVER run any java applets on websites you don't trust. Those are these things:

If you get one of these ^ on a phishing site (or any website that's not trustworthy, for that matter), do not run it. Loading the applet could instal keyloggers and other shitty viruses.

They do, like advertising etc. But you can easy see if it is of Jagex or not.

    [email protected]
    [email protected]

These are the both emails I know of Jagex.

    fake jagex email?

this is true, and i know this, but, they did send me an email about botting and the whole "john doe" case. So i figured that they could have gotten my email off one of these websites and just done it through there, not really knowing my in-game name, but just by email, kinda like for the whole botting thing.

When you click the link, if the URL at the top is not displayed exactly how Runescape's real login page is, then just exit it, and ignore the mail.

The recent phishing emails seem to be mixing fake and real URL's in them, to make them seem a bit more legitimate. At least that's what i've been getting.

I accidentally typed in my password.

Went to real Runescape and immediately changed it. Asked for my banker password so I knew it was fake.
