Why do English people view Americans in a certain way?

I considered editing this into my opinion. not three days ago while sending off stuff at UPS, a British guy was holding up the line by demanding better prices to send his shitty 5 dollar gift to England (which he had a point, pay 70 dollars to get a package worth 5 dollars to another country wat?). I didn't hold it against him though, he had an awesome, chocolaty british accent. I was content to sit and listen for hours.

HOWEVER it's a singular positive that a lot of americans view among the sea of negative stereotypes (such as appalling teeth those Brits have)

 

I'm American.. I'm appalled at this government.

And as of now they're trying to censor the internet..
I hate my own kind. #smh.

the media portrays the bad more than the good in America. but then again, its easier to do bad things then it is to do good things.

I have no problem with americans but i do understand what yours saying, but just one thing.. do americans not think of the british in certain ways? i think they do.

 

I'm American and I know a lot of racist people and whatever. There are a lot of stereotypes out there for Brits and I don't really agree with them. Alot of people think you guys are "dirty" for whatever reason. I don't understand. I do live in a very hickish part of the states though so this may only be around here.

 

This is a bit off topic but very similar. Alot of American-Leftist, you may notice are not too fond of America and some of them say it is a terrible country (These are people who live in America). The problem is, the reason they think America is because the American-Leftist is follow International-Leftist...And we all know International leftists DO NOT like America for some reasons (Form of government?) So that is why SOME Americans dont like America, because they follow ideas of people who dont like America

Not really, I believe it is the same reason we think Englishmen have crooked teeth and smell like fish. Stereotyping, Personally experiences, and Peer pressure/outside influences

I'm English, i don't hate Americans. I can admit quite a few do, for no reason at all but tbh i like Americans.

 

It's simple. I hate the American's that are portrayed in media. They're so fucking stupid. I honestly get scared sometimes because of how dumb and ignorant media makes American's seem. Of course you're going to find dumb people, there are always dumb people wherever you go you will find them.

 

Cause of TV. You see more americans doing crazy stuff than english people :L

 

It's really about the US government from what I can see. Everybody (including Americans) is pretty dissatisfied with the US Government, and are always mad at them. Because the US is such a central player in global politics, you can't avoid all the haters. But TBH, the Gov is doing pretty shitty ATM.
