    xbox modding?

I'm looking to purchase and mod an old (or new?) xbox so I can burn games and play them. I'm totally new at this so I have a few questions...

If I burn games for offline play can I still purchase legit games and play them on live?
Is there any way to softmod the xbox? (without changing the board or other hardware)

    Thanks for your help :D

    xbox modding?

Hi :) i have a couple of answers for you
No, not safely, its still possible to go on live with a modded xbox, but the chances of the xbox not being banned from live are very slim, and when an update arrives, youll be banned for sure. the best thing to do is as you say, buy an old one and have 2 xbox's; one for live and one for backups :)
Not as of yet, and i doubt there will ever be tbh. the only way to play backups is to flash your dvd drive.

    i hope that helped :)

Basically if you just want to play burned games you won't want a Jtagged xbox, you can just do it with any old xbox.

You can either flash your xbox (modding some hardware) or hotswap your xbox (requires opening your xbox but not modding).

You can play burnt games offline but your xbox 360 records information about your xbox and sends it to microsoft when you go online so it doesn't matter. The only 0% ban chance is playing all offline, in which case you should just buy a banned xbox.

(Sorry I'm just doing this from memory, I haven't been on the xbox modding scene for a while >_< )

    xbox modding?

Oh, thanks for the answers. I have a friend who bought an old used xbox, and he flashed the hard drive to play burnt games. He still plays legit games on Live though, and isn't banned. Can anyone enlighten me?

They don't really do bans on a case-by-case basis like Jagex does. They usually do 2 ban waves a year, but if you're lucky you might miss it. Also keeping up to date with the latest firmware helps.

The way I do it, is to own your legitimate xbox to play online games, and have another, older xbox that has modded firmware. Play your online games, and when you want to play a modded game offline, move your gamer profile from your legitimate xbox using a USB drive (since xbox now has USB support) and put it on your modded xbox, then play your games, and move back ( and you should even keep achievements without your profile getting corrupted). Just make sure to never go online after playing a game that has not came out yet. A good site to look to with any questions about xbox modding/downloading games is: www.xbox360iso.com Hope this helps!
