Xbox 360 scratching problems

K, i tried to play campaign on Halo 3 just for hells sake after i havent played it for a while, and it dosent load any level. Then I try and start new campaign and after the initial cutscene, it says the disc is scratched. I take it out and sure enough the disc is scratched.

I haven't moved my xbox or taken the game out for a long time, and last time i took it out i played campaign right after. I cant play a couple of maps either. After playing matchmaking for a while, i realized smetimes my 360 slows down and makes a SKKRRCCHH sound when it is loading stuff. This is what is causing the scratching.

Is their any way to stop this or a good houshold remedy way of fixing the discs without buying a 20$ kit or sending them to microsoft for a replacement?

Don't suggest toothpaste, i tried that on one of my other discs and it completely screwed it up.

 

Ya i hate the xbox and that scratching problem. Id call up microsoft and see what they say 1800-4-my-xbox

Ive heard that some Halo 3 copies some how jack up your 360.

 

I think those are the elite or whatever you call the limited Halo 3 disks. And no, I think they only came scratched, and don't screw up your xbox.

Atleast halo screwed it self up and not the whole 360 =D
