    Windows API Question

How much experience should I have with programming in order to start using the Windows API (or any other GUI for that matter)? I started a month or so ago and right now am only writing console projects. I tried to look at and understand some API tutorials but none of it really makes much sense. So is there a general guideline I should follow in terms of when to start using a GUI?

    Any help is appreciated.

There isn't a general guideline. You can start whenever you feel comfortable writing console projects. In my personal experience, it was quite difficult to go from console to windows api, but with time and study you'll be fine

Thanks for the help. Anything in particular I should be familiar with though to understand the concept?

    Windows API Question

GUI's were the last thing I did on my Java module during the first year of my degree. If that helps.

In response to you asking if there is anything in particular you should be familiar with, I'd say yes... and no. I found that the actual aspect of making a GUI felt somewhat different to making a regular program, but at the same time I'm sure spending alot of time getting used to coding helped me grasp the overall concept of it.

Since a GUI is basically just the interface boundary to a more complex program, I'd suggest you spend some time learning different things first :)

Thanks Pottworth. I've noticed especially with the Windows API you have to be familiar with pointers and other concepts. So I think I'm just going to stick with console programming until I have a stronger foundation. Any other tips about making my wa towards GUI programming would be more than appreciated however.
