What do you think of the new interface for windows 8?
I just purchased a windows 8 pc and thought it looked fantastic, a great new way to interact with your computer. However after using it for a while, I have found it isn't that easy to use and makes using your computer day to day, take just that bit longer. What do you guys think?

It's alright, then again there's nothing wrong with Windows 7 (same as there was nothing wrong with XP). I'll probably be sticking with Windows 7 for the time being.

Its aimed for use with touchscreen and/or gestures.

Less productive if not using any of the above.

I have W8 gestures on my laptop and those can really speed things up. Just swipe to the left to open a menu. Instead of moving the mouse to the corner.

You can install a theme with a start button.
I always use search, its the fastest in combination with a ssd.

yeah this is true, i found windows 7 to be no different from vista anyway! Windows 8 does have some differences at least, but whether they are better is definitely debatable...

yeah i use it on a touchscreen pc, I just find the switching between the tile screen and the older looking screen becomes annoying, and the fact that if you open something, it only seems to be on one or the other, doesn't seem to make a lot of sense there...

Personally, I prefer the W7 setup, that's what I use now and to me, nothing seems wrong with it.

Yeah, on the whole it seems to not be liked too much. Perhaps it just needs time for people to get used to it?

Yeah i know what you mean, it feels like they have ultimately limited their audience though, as not everyone is going to have a touchscreen...

It still works without touch screen, it comes built in in a lot of new PC's/Laptops. It's absolutely fine in my opinion.

yeah i know it works without, but it's optimized for touchscreen, which seems strange considering most people don't have a touchscreen.

Not so strange when HP and other large companies are exclusively releasing touchscreen desktops and tablets.

Windows 8 isn't optimized for productivity, it's geared for the experience, the look and feel, and the touchscreen aspect. That's why all of the Windows 8 commercials are children playing on the machines, not business men or productive little teenagers. If you want productivity, smooth functionality, and speed, then you should downgrade to windows 7, or just set your PC to display the windows 7 design. I don't know how to do that, but you can google search it.

Yeah i guess you're right here, it is more to be aesthetically pleasing than to be used for high productivity as you said. It just seems that as a whole new operating system they could have made it a bit more well rounded for all pc users, not just the ones that have a touchscreen pc

Personally, I think it's okay. But, I honestly think they are trying way too hard to be like Apple. With every release, they get more and more closed source with their OS's. I might even end up switching to Linux. Other than that, It's great for a less advanced user.

Windows 8 is, like everybody above has said, too focused on the touchscreen experience. If you're serious about computing, you'll realise that leaving it on the default display is a slower way of manoeuvring around your computer. I personally think it's a waste of money in the exact same way that Vista was.

Windows 8 honestly isn't that bad, the more you use it, the more you will like it. Behind the new interface, lies a very fast and powerful OS.

I've used it on a tablet and it's not bad, but the only way I'd ever use it on a PC is if I were to remove the metro UI first.

I don't think it's much of a difference, I just prefer Windows 7 right now.

There is a program that makes it not pop up when it runs and another to put the start menu back. It's just ridiculous that they didn't allow people to choose to not use Metro. That was a business decision to make people switch, not to make users happy. Fuckers.
