The AMD A4-4000 is definitely a better buy between the two. Unlike the unlike the AMD Athlon X2 340 it has integrated Radeon HD 7480D graphics. Basically that isn't quite as good as a separate video card but it seems like you're on an extreme budget so something with built in graphics is the way to go.


Performance wise the AMD Athlon X2 340 is slightly better(and I mean very slightly) as a processor but you lose out on that integrated graphics.

Also what kind of gaming are you looking to do? With that apu a lot of modern games (2010+) will be virtually unplayable.

Check out a Celeron G1610. Better performance/$ ratio and about the same price.

 

Good point, he loses out on the APU though if he goes that route.

 

Well I'd hope he has a dedicated gpu already. Even a cheap one would be better than an integrated gpu.
