User Title requests

I'm not exactly sure if this is a realistic suggestion, as I don't really know how UT's work but, here it is:

Would it not be a lot easier for us to be able to set our own UT's? Of course there would have to be some sort of filter to prevent people from using certain titles (Ex. admin, mod, official, staff, trusted, etc.), but as it's probably pretty difficult to filter out every forbidden word/title, users who have offensive/forbidden UT's could simply be reported and receive an infraction or lose the privilege to have a custom UT. Same rules apply, colored UT's can only be set by $100+ donors.

I'm making this suggestion because I feel like it might be a pain in the ass for Matthew or whomever sets the UT's to have to answer every request, especially considering I frequently send in requests (I know, inb4dontsendsomany...)

Anyway, I'd like to hear some other opinions on the topic, and if it's too much of an unrealistic suggestion or not possible, feel free to close the thread.

Good suggestion, sadly I don't think they'll accept it though.

 

I'm not sure if you would even be able to implement your own HTML, but I think this should be up to Matthew. If he can keep up doing them, there's no real problem.

 

Well, that's sort of why I suggested this. Personally, I'd feel a lot more at rest knowing I'm not constantly pestering Matthew with ut requests lol

I don't have the right to use a UT, but i'm sure this update would help out and save time.

 

Support, would make it easier for both users and admins. People who abuse this power have at first a temp privilege ban, then permanent.

It doesn't make it easier on everybody, because you're really only known by your one username, it would just cause down right confusin imo

 

I think the problem for the higher level Usertitles is that there's a lot of room for HTML abuse... it can be manipulated to do a lot of things (this is what I gather from what has previously been discussed in the Staff lounge).

 

Usertitles, not usernames.
Ut's are the things under your name that say 'Active Member', 'Guru', 'Newcomer', or if you have a custom (like I do, for example) 'Echoes'

My suggestion for HTML abuse is to make it a textbox like they do in the post title + colors and stuff for $100 donors - Unless I can use post titles to do HTML abuse?

This is a great suggestion but i think there are still ways to abuse it, i am sure they haven't done this for a reason. But it will be a nice feature to have if they can make it.

 

This, users are never going to be able to set unapproved html titles.

 

Basically what Alteranz said, if you were allowed, HTML could be used and could potentially cause harm. There was one that was going around that had HTML written into the PM title and when you clicked it, your page would load a sythe.org page that seemed that the system had logged you out, but it was rather a phisher.

I'm surprised you guys actually want to improve this system, it used to be have to be done by the general admins, which wasnt always quick.. Now its done at least once every day when Matthew comes on and checks the donation center.
