Yes he's a theif, he stole in the first place. Although it seems he does have a good conscious and meant no harm in the long run.

 

Personally, I believe yes. The man tried to fix his wrongs and I assume he would have apologised. I believe in second chances too.

 

Was he not selfish for taking it in the first place.

 

Yes he was. I'm not saying that he didn't commit a crime, I'm stating I believe he's forgivable.

 

Yes, he returned the money eventually.

 

He's a good Samaritan that happens to be a thief.
Had he not possessed that extra money, he wouldn't had ever paid it back.

 

Not forgiven in my eyes.

If in your hypothetical situation he caused damage/fear to the people working the the service station, the effects that had on the business. The staff they would've sued to company for the distress.

Overall, he pays it back.. But only at somewhat of the price.

 

Okay, now my final question.

What if he only paid it back once he was caught, and knew it would get his sentence reduced.

Should he be forgiven.

 

It's still assault and stealing. There is always room for forgiveness but that is at anyone's discretion. This reminds me of our high pardon system.

 

If true remorse is shown, then yes.

How could you tell. It's not like repaying it came without it's benefits.

 

The was a precedent set about 15 years ago in Australia. I can't remember the name, but the judge ended up ruling the person not guilty of theft because he gave back the handbag without anything stolen.

I'm not too sure about how long you can keep an item for (I only remember the story, not the technicalities).

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to tell. I guess you can say the Sythe Staff would understand this when it comes to pardons.

Stealing to help others, morally acceptable, i.e the Robin Hood theory.

Stealing for your own benefit, morally wrong and poses you as a criminal.

 

Well of course he is a thief. I mean he took something that isn't his. Anyways, it seems like the story of the typical robber, who has so many "problems" that are so problematic that they have to resort to stealing. Yes. He is a theif. It's wont make any sense of he isn't. Thanks for the question
