Tanking..

I'm a tank, I don't know if mage is wanted/needed on a tank though.
I wanna level mage but not sure if it's smart.
Currently am 63 ranged 60 def and 74 prayer.
Discuss.

 

It helps, if you raise it via curse or alchemy then you won't gain any actual combat levels from it, assuming you keep it the same level as your ranged.

 

If you're going p2p (sounds like it because of 74 prayer) you're going to want and need 94 mage for veng.

Without veng, you're not really a tank and that's a much needed bonus for getting KOs.

 

P2p mage is very useful for tank hybriding. Or veng whichever you prefer but yeah its worth getting up

 

But doesn't lunar quests get you attk+str? Or will those levels not really matter?

 

Mage is very important in P2P (which, as stated above, it looks like you're building for) so you can Veng. If nothing else, it won't really get you combat levels, so you may as well level it.

Mage is very important. It wont affect your cb at all really.
