System Restore Points

So I am not familiar with how System restore points work beyond the fact that it saves the state of your computer currently. Say I download a virus of some type, can I go back to that system restore point and it removes said virus?

 

Not necessarily, it mainly restores your settings rather than your files. Most of the time the virus is still there. You're better off just scanning with Malwarebytes and buying a good Antivirus such as Kaspersky.

 

I got MalwareBytes. I know how to keep my computer secure, I had just never played with restore points before.
