    Started my mining operation

hello all. Soon I will use this thread to document my mining as well as provide tips and tricks and technically support for others looking to mine using asics.

    October 19, 2017

ASICS finally hooked up after electrical was finished. Pulling 1000w at the plugs. Heat may have been an issue, so percussions were taken in such a small space. Box fans usually do the trick to help filter out with air circulation and is a good addition if you have correct placement. Hard foil tubing was also added to the exhaust fans, traveling upwards to a high speed intake vent that filters to the attics.

Tip: make sure that if you are using a set up similar to a data center, using the "isle" method, that you have any box/shop fans blowing the hot air away from the miners, and cold A/C fans flowing into the room, preferably from below. exhaust tubing like mine allows for data center like cooling without the space. We will also be adding a stand alone AC unit, which will run about $400, but will diffidently help produce some cooling.

Miners running at an average of 90-95% effienecy hash wise, which is near the perfect 98% (100% is basically unobtainable, since you will always lose hash at some point).

100% of this 5-8% percentage is hash lost due to stale blocks, but this is most likely not caused by my hardware or software, and probably just network latency.

Tip: if you are mining with an ASIC and your hashing pool says you are below 80%, you may have hardware issues. If hardware checks out, make sure the software you are using is up to date. If this doesn't work, it may because your hardware is just not up to par, and should look to mine a coin that will help bring this to at least 85-87%

    October 21st, 2017

Miners holding 91-98%, again, stale shares do to pool latency, which is constantly being worked out on their end. Dynamically mining between coins like bridgecoin, GameCoin, and BitConnectCoin.
Averaging within my estimated hashing power.

Not much more to say so I'll end this here.

Tip: if you live up north, try to use your ASIC or other mining rigs to hear your home that way you can make back a little money on your electricity bill by cutting back on heating your home. Temperatures for exhaust can exceed 87-93*, depending on your location and size of the room. This works great up north and colder places over seas.

    October 23rd 2017

I decided to change the cooling/exhaust system. Instead of 2 , 5inch wide tubes running for the exhaust of the miners and dumping into a high velocity intake vent, we decided to remove to cover to the intake vent, and slightly move the tubings, positioning them to run the hot exhaust air directly into the attic. Why? Well because the intake vent, although very nice and helpful, has an hole that exits into the attic that seemed to small for the amount of hot air flowing from the tubes to it. This caused the vent to get filled with hot air and not able to dump that hot air into the attic quick enough due to the small size of the hole leading from the intake vent to the attic. Instead, we have the cover removed, pulling air directly from the room, instead of the ASIC exhaust tubing. This allows the hot air of the exhaust to go straight to the attic, and frees up the intake vent to vent out any hot air.

This dropped the room temperature room about 83*F to 73*F.. this is a BIG help to the health of my ASICS and network hashing power.

tip: If you live up north and decide to dump exhaust in the attic, this will deffidently help insulate your home, and may be worth a small cut to the attic... however, I am set up in a commercial building, thus cutting through the ceiling is no problem since the ceiling is made of acoustical ceilings, which are easy to remove and cut.

My set up is quick simple, but took about a day to set up. I will be adding pictures with full descriptions of how I set everything up soon, and will work as a step by step visual tutorial for starting a mining or ASIC farm, but remember, mining with ASIC is much different than mining with GPU and rigs.

First I have 2 ASIC miners set up on a industrial shelf. One is on the second to last shelf, and the other is just one shelf below. Attached to the side railing are a 110v plug for my fans and ethernet switch (used to connect the two miners and a output ethernet is wired through the attic to the buildings server room). We also have our power outlets hanging from the ceiling from where we ran them to the breaker box. If we need, we can cut the breaker at any moment if there is some kind of fault. These plugs aren't your standard outlet, and we used large wire based plugs that resemble networking cables, being about 1.5inches wide. this allows for us to move the machines if needed, without having to search for long power cables for the power supplies.

We also used 5 inch (or so) wide tin metal tubing that the ASIC exhaust fans blow into. These tubes (about 10ft long), run up into the walls and blows exhaust our into the attic. We also have a intake vent that stops any hot air from entering the room. this vent is located about 4-5 feet above the exhaust of the ASIC exhaust. This was really important to make sure that my equipment remains cools to maintain a good hash rate and efficiency.

I do not have a PC set up, since you just need to be connected to the network to access the mining software and control panel. I can also see a live hashrate, efficiency, and live profits from anywhere from my phone, meaning I don't need to be there while they run. I haven't been to my office in 2 days, and my machines are doing just fine, with temperature not exceeding 60* on the chips, hovering around 55*.

The room the miners are in is pretty small, but I hope to upgrade to around 5 more machines, and run a different, non shelf set up.

Sounds like the beginning of something great. Currently I am running 6 gpus mining for eth and dcr, which has been a fun hobby. I also ordered 3 Dash Antminers from bitmain which ship out any day now. I'm excited to see where it takes me. It is much more fun mining for tokens than purchasing tokens.

    Very nice
I have 2 L3+ but will be getting 2 more soon hopefully!
The d3 are nice... If you loved down south I would say lets just combine farms lol

Tip: you will need a 22ov AC plug unless you want to use a transformer. bitmain doesn't sell them, nor do they come with the machines -_-
Set me back almost a week...
You have 220v power? If not you need to wire it I believe... The antminer power supplies are pretty nice too.

What GPU? GPU mining is nice because if a card fails you can send it back and still have 5 cards to mine with. Where as if my script miners fail, I'm out 1 machine.

I love the comments about using them for heating inside your home lmao.

I'd be interested in what you have for startup costs and maintenance if you'd take some time to put it together it'd be interesting to see to say the least.

This'll also be advantageous for you so you know if you're making money and if the process is scalable or not.

I'm in Florida, about as south as it gets. As far as GPUs go, I have 6 rx 580's running o/c'ed and under volted.

How much did a setup like this cost? Also is it to late in the game to begin a mining operation from home?

I'm not far from you haha my aunt lives in perdido key and we go to perdido or Pensacola every year and very rarely destin, but I'm only like San destin really.

That's a nice setup! They make rigs as you already know that will help take up less space, but regardless I like the set up. What are you specifically mining? Or are you dynamically mining random coins then getting paid out? (I mine various coins and take LTC payouts)

Yeah I make profit I don't pay rent, electricity, or utilities, and I just let my miners sit there while I'm at home or school. TBH I haven't touched them in nearly a week.. But yeah the profits are nice, but I expect to drop around 10% or more every month. Sadly but main wants to make money and is constantly making new batches and diluting the difficulty which is why it's harder and harder for hobbits and small business miners to get involved:/
They did this with BTC and it was one of the reasons for one of its forks.

The forks are BS imo. Soon we will have a bunch of random "BTC" shitcoins. Thankfully LTC miners aren't really about forking, at least not anytime soon

neat thread. definitely in for pics.

on a somewhat related note, I read a story the other day in my local news paper about a guy who was caught stealing diesel fuel, basically having a pickup truck with two large auxillary fuel tanks strapped in totaling about 1000 litres. at first police suspected he was either just stealing it and reselling it or was using it to fuel generators to power lights at a marijuana grow op.

Turned out it was neither. He was stealing it for use in generators, but to power a bitcoin (or some other coins who knows) mining operation. I dont do crime, but was an interesting way to do it. Theft under $5000 charges in Canada with a half decent lawyer can be a complete slap on the wrist, and you'd be hard pressed to get caught and charged with theft over $5000 if you're being smart and only stealing around $1000 of fuel at a time. Wish they would have listed specifics, cause I wonder how big his operation was, how long 1000L would last him, and how much he was earning.

Well if you found the post and found what kind of machines and what year/month it was, it's possible to find out An estimate lol. Thankfully I don't have to pay for electricity or anything
