Skateboarding

There's been this recent popularity surge in skating I've noticed. Anyone shred?

Favorite skaters? Favorite video parts? SLS/BATB/SOTY predictions? Preferred brands? Anything!

 

I skated more in my highschool years. And every now and then go to the park but can't do as much as I used to. And my favorite skater currently is Chris Joslin.

 

Joslin is a monster, I was kinda upset that he didn't win SOTY last year. He dropped so much quality footage that it seemed like no contest. But I guess it doesn't really matter too much. And you don't have to hit up a park my man, I pretty much only skate street and so do most people I know.

I'd recommend watching Awake to anyone living in the dark. Its pretty short but so fucking heavy.

 

Well I started skating when I was 12. I never really got into it. Instead of learning tricks I just decided I would start riding longboards. And I've been bombing hills ever since.

 

I tried to start skating but I couldn't ever get the hang of it lmao

 

I bought an enormous sector 9 board for $120 back in like 08 and I'm using it now more than ever. Back then longboards were more of a novelty, so its too heavy to slide on but its still incredibly comfortable to ride. Actually just had the bearings replaced for the first time when I was last at a skate shop.

But I bought it at zumies so I lose a lot of cred

 

I always wanted to skateboard but never tried it :/

 

Longboards were a novelty in 2008?

 

Compared to now, yeah absolutely. Back then, they were a rarity, something you saw on a single rack in skate shops. They costed double the price and were incredibly heavy. My friends would go crazy when they saw it sitting in my garage as a kid because nobody had one. Now, go to any university campus and you'll see tons of folks riding around on longboards & pennies. There are full-on festivals and events for longboarding. It's a separate sport now.

 

I haven't been skating as much these past few months but I've been keeping up with the news and watching new parts. Feel free to contribute!

 

I'm pretty sure skating always been popular since the 90s. It's probably the most fun sport you can do by yourself along with surfing/snowboarding. I've gotten into it recently. I can do a solid ollie and a front/back pop shove it if you give me enough tries. I was into inline skating as a kid I can go down halfpipes, but would really like to learn to grind.

 

In our country skateboarding is pretty gay.

It just is well known in the netherlands. Skateboys are gayboys.

New mini-part by shane o'neill dropped this week and was unreal. Louie Lopez dropped a killer part recently as well.
older news, Kyle Walker won SOTY which is dope for him. I was routing for Evan Smith because he's reps skateboarding for what it should be, but honestly watching Walker's videos I feel the same way about him so I'm happy about it regardless. Both of them fuckin shred, thats whats important.
