Signatures

Im suggesting that there be a border line for the signatures so people wont go overboard with it unintentionally resulting in an infraction. For example if i were to put a 350x400 picture in for my avatar, it would automatically be downsized so it could fit. I think the same thing should apply to signatures so people wont have the chance to mess up and we can eliminate the problem completely. Most new users dont know how to deal with all the technical things involving this anyway.

if the above doesnt work will it be possible for a message to appear preventing you from setting the signatutre if its too big. So people can atleast not make the mistake and know their signature isnt acceptable.

Also i dont want to remove the infraction possibility completely from signatures but maybe you could still get infracted for what goes in your signature such as vulgarity or phishing links or other things of that sort that arnt approved.

 

I would support this, but I'm pretty sure if this could be done it would have been done already. Maybe it just can't be done in the version of VB, I'm not entirely sure. If it could be done, then support, as there's no reason to upload an oversized signature at all.

 

Avatars are different; their automatic resizing is an innate ability in vBulletin, which is only possible because an avatar is a single image. Signatures are a conglomeration of lots of different things, like text, images, and so on. Matthew would need to write a modification to find every image in a submitted signature, measure its dimensions, and resize it. Furthermore, the images would likely need to be hosted on the Sythe.org servers after being resized.

It does sound like a good idea, but I'm afraid it would be too difficult to implement.

Edit: To clarify, your suggestion is fully possible if you want to move to a system where signatures can only be a single image without text or BBCode. (In fact, older forums used to do this.) Otherwise, it can't happen.

 

I believe this has been suggested before and declined due to the reasons stated in Tyros above post. I do agree it sounds completely practical and would be an excellent addition to Sythe considering it would save a lot of time for moderators, it's just not practical.

Part of being a member of sythe is knowing the rules and you just have to live with it. Sythe can't baby everyone because they don't know the rules.

 

Tyro summed it up quite eloquently. Closing this. It really isn't that difficult to read the rules, figure out what the limit is, and then check the size of your own signature.
