Shutter Island

so i saw this movie and i thought i understood it all until the end...
so was he really crazy? or was he a detective who got brainwashed? can someone please explain the ending to me

 

He's "crazy".

He had a breakdown after seeing his wife murder his children and has been in the institution for years.
The bald guy (Don't remember his name) that runs the place was trying out some role-playing to get him out of the loop he was stuck in, he failed.

In the end of the movie you will see the main character is back at the start of his loop.

 

This is on my "to see" list. Heard good things.

 

I have seen almost every movie out there and Shutter Island was by far the best one

 

Honestly I think that the experiment was a success.

His guilt/pain was so heavy that he could not live with it. Rather than to live knowing what he did to his wife/children he would rather be lobotomized so he decides to still act as Teddy Daniels.

This is why he says the following line at the very end of the movie:
"I wonder what's worse, living as a monster, or dying as a good man"

Make sense?

 

i can't tell if it was a success or not. Because they wanted him to come to reality right? and he did but he was better off living as teddy so he doesn't have to know that he killed his wife. But yes when he said "I wonder what's worse, livign as a monster, or dying as a good man" made a lot of sense. This movie was really well thought out

 

Yeah the role playing was done in order to make him realize what he had done and such. In the end it worked, he realized what he had done and he knew that he killed his wife/children. He knew that he wasn't Teddy Daniels, but he acted like it in order to be lobotomized so that he wouldn't have to live with what he had done.

Probably one of if not my favorite movies.

 

Its a trip, you dont really know if he is sane or insane, there is evidence for both

 

Also if you liked shutter island, I suggest you watch The Game

thats true. Because someone ( i don't remember who) told them that they turn you insane while your on the island, so he actually could of been teddy daniels but they brainwashed him while he was there into thinking he was ladeaus (spelt that wrong) and now that they have him convinced he murdered his wife so that he felt he belonged there.
you could make good argument for both ways

 

I thought it sucked cuz then he realized he was crazy and then it was over. I thought it was lame.

 

haha na man not trolling, btw The Game is more trippier than inception and shutter island, and is more clear in the end, unlike Shutter Island, were it gives you a two sided view on the movie. Your going to love it! :laugh:

 

I was watched this movie today. It's was really weird. It's sort of a interesting. I think it's based story compare to real life, if so.. That's really shame.

 

i watched the game and there were 2 things i didnt like about it
1) That they went to far with the movie, like planning all of that out they went to far. Like how did they know he was going to jump through the glass cause he could of jumped off the otherside and killed himself
2)They didn't show how they did all of work, like i wanted to know how they set up the whole thing

 

he was crazy, lol there is no question about it. The producers did a great job. Its a movie you have to watch twice

 

This movie was wayyyyy better than I imagined. I put it into the dvd player without any background knowledge about it other than Leonardo Dicaprio was in it. But I love the whole mind games genre and it was such a good movie. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I felt like I understood it when it was over.

 

I liked this movie but I believe Teddy was crazy, the ending for Inception was "trippier".

 

He becomes sane in the end, but can't live with the guilt so he chooses to be lobotomized

 

but what if he actually was sane, and overtime they just brainwashed him into thinking being teddy was just an act. Because people were saying they brainwash you until you think you belong there.
