Scientists developing "sober" pill

A pill that would allow you to drink as much as you want without getting drunk is being developed.

The work is based on examining the way alcohol affects glial cells in the brain. Trial runs on mice have demonstrated that it is possible to reduce or even eliminate the negative affects of alcohol thus paving the way for a potential pill that could be taken to prevent people from getting drunk.

Most people who drink a lot is because they want the feeling of being drunk IMO. So no use in this pill.

Most people drink for the feeling, not the taste. Pill will be useless.

 

In my opinion that pill is just ridiculous, though beer does taste nice, I don't just drink it for that.
Who an earth would drink vodka if it didn't get you drunk? The whole point is, vodka tastes better the more you drink, and drinking makes you feel more relaxed...
It would be like inventing a pill that stops people feeling the effects of marijuana, and then trying to encourage them to try it...

In Korea, people are pressured to drink. If you're offered a drink but you reject it, you're a social reject.

Does this pill only work if taken before consumption of alcohol? Or after you've consumed it as well? That would be a fucked up feeling..

 

I think that it's only before you've consumed alcohol. I'm not exactly an expert, but something in the back of my head from all the Biology I've studied is telling me that you can not sober up just like that with the help of a single pill.

That^ Would be impossible but a pill that reacts with brain receptors that react to the alcohol to stop the effects could work. There would still be alcohol in you say .08 BAC but you would be completely sober. That would be great; Drink a;ll night pop 1 10 mins before driving and your golden its a win win.

Also tired of all the random kids showing up to ur rager? Put that pills powered in everyone's beer the fun ends quick and people leave.

 

Well it probably wouldn't remove the alcohol maybe remove/lessen the side effects.

 

probably useful for eating AFTER you finished getting drunk. Like when you are about to walk home or get into the car or stuff. Though I doubt they will allow you to drive, even with the pill.

 

1. Get drunk

2. Go to an Oxygen Bar

3. 50L CO2

4. 75% of the alochol consumed is reduced.

5. Drive back to the bar

6. Repeat

No pill necessary.

 

If it works AFTER getting drunk this could be great for drivers.

 

This would be useful in a variety of circumstances, I would assume.

But hopefully it isn't more than a couple bucks over the counter.

 

If it could sober you up when your drunk it would be a amazing! No more puking everywhere otherwise its kinda useless in most cases
