I presume this is the right forum section, every other post seems to be about botting though.
So I was wondering, if i could get a REAL explanation for why gold selling websites require your phone number and address..they say its to verify who you say you are but..Surely i could use any old phone number and it would mean nothing?
It seems a little intrusive for no apparent reason, can someone explain it to me?

Most places where you pay online require that information. Their payment processor can check the information against what they have on file for that card to help prevent usage of stolen cards.

 

If your buying leveling services they sometimes call you.

 

That and the fact that they want to make sure that if anything goes wrong they have contact methods.

 

Sometimes they call you if you buy large quantities of gold as well.

But in general, websites use this to validate that you are who you say you are when paying with any forms of payment method.

Even if they don't necessarily use it to validate your information, I'm sure it's some sort of legal requirement for them to ask for said information, so if they get audited they have it on file to show.

 

gold4fun and many other of those sites will always call you or send a text message, or both.
You actually wont understand anything of what they say but they usually ask:

How much did you pay?
Character name?
Your name?
How old are you (say anything above 21)
How did you pay? (say YOU own the CC or PP account, else they will ask you to talk to the owner of the CC/PP)

 

Preventing any future chargebacks, if someone fucks them over.
