Just a thread on a specific artist. I first heard of him about the same time I got onto Pharaohe Monch, which actually wasn't too long ago. But I heard his track on "Assassins" that features Pharaohe, Jean Grae, and Royc. I was totally hooked. And then I heard this track over Drake's beat and I was sucked in for sure.
I first heard him when he featured on one of Elzhi's tracks. Two great Detroit hip-hop artists combining for a dope track. Royce is sick.
I usually get into the habit of liking an artist for one song, getting all of their stuff, and then if I really enjoy all of it, buy some of their tracks. And I gotta say, he's consistent and sick overall.
I've listened to Royce for a long time, not one of my favorite artists though. He's pretty dope, sadly he put himself in the shadow of Eminem, when he started with him back in 1997 ~. Even though Royce was WAY better than Em on a lot of their songs together, back then. Eminem, as a white guy out shined Royce in the fame point of view.
But Royce and Eminem make a mean collaboration! The "Bad Meets Evil" album blew me away by how Royce could dominate lyrically. Along with Eminem + Dre, Royce can be top dogs soon enough. With Eminem losing 50's contract and signing Slaughterhouse, it just makes Aftermath Records so much better. Russian
@ Russian, honestly, listen to Renegades (Royce 5"9 version) btw that's the original version. Also listen to the original bad meets evil, from the slim shady EP not LP. Royce destroys Em on both of those tracks, Royce has definitely lost his old skill, but he's still dope for sure.
Oh man. I HAVE heard them. I follow anything that is Eminem related, and hve listened to Royce's Renagade and other songs, Royce is a great artist, no doubt about it. That's what I mean, Eminem and Royce are a great Duo. They can mke some great work together. Russian
