Ram

I downloaded photoshop (no more information), but it's laggy. I know it's not my computer or the program. My computer has 4gb ram so I'm pretty sure that I can run it. Maybe it's vista? Is it like limiting the programs ram or something? I increased the priority but it didn't help much. Is it possible to make it like the only thing run?

 

Yes just use taskmanager and try it that way. else run MSCONF from windkey+R

Perhaps RAM is not your bottleneck. Post more specs such as your processor, your gfx card (If you're using CS4 with the gfx card processing enabled) and how much RAM are you allowing photoshop to use? Check in your performance tab inside the photoshop settings (edit->preferences)

 

Well, I'm am I giving my ps 90% percent ram and closing all my programs. How do I find my graphics card? And yes, I set the priority to high.

Sometimes I wonder if I actually don't have 4gb ram .

 

If you're running Vista, press the start button and in the search bar type "dxdiag" it should appear at the top under programs. Click over to display, and it should tell you your make/model GFX card.

But nvm that! I figured it out! All these times when I was downloading photoshop, I would set it to 420 by 120. I didn't set to pixels, but inches. Thats why it was so slow. Now whenever I add a gradient or anything, its instant. I'm so stupid .
