Quick Question for all

My brother and I are planning on buying cigars online. Problem: We are 17. How exactly do they enforce the rule of being 18 when you're buying them online and having them shipped? Our plan is to pay with them through paypal and then have them shipped to my sister's dorm. She is 18 so it is legal for her.

 

I'm sure you've already heard all the "Cigars are bad for you" stuff, so I'll try to answer your question.
Your best bet is to ask your parents or sister to buy it in her name. I don't think they CAN enforce it online unless they ask for ID, but better to be safe.

 

The only way that it is enforced normally is when it says, Are you 18 years of age? and you click yes or put in your birthday. It doesnt matter where they are shipped.

 

It could just be a simple "Yes I agree I'm 18+" and it's shipped. Or it could be a scan your drivers license / passport for proof.. You'd be best using your sisters information and paying with your paypal.

 

Some companies will not allow you to order if you order by card and your card registers you as under 18. Normally it's the simple process of saying yes or no if you are over 18.

Most places don't care how old you are most of the time, only that you are buying from them.

 

You have to be 18 to have a paypal so what makes lieing that you are 18 to buy cigars any different?

They are going to your sisters so why would you put the order in your name?

 

You could honestly ship them to your house, Paypal is 18+ already and for majority of sites they will have check off a little box.

 

depends actually since your not paying the tabacco taxes and customs picks it up then you will have to go pay for the taxes in person. The odds are customs won't pick it up so i think your pretty safe to go ahead and buy them online. The only thing i would really worry about is the quality of the cigars.

 

I just went ahead and had her pay for them and then I'm going to pay her back. The site really just said, "Check this box to ensure you're 18+". It's very interesting to see that there is a loophole in the system...Not that I'm planning on abusing it, but it's very interesting to know that they don't make you do anything else besides just checking a box to ensure you're 18.

 

they dont care if your under age, that just ensures them that they cant get in trouble if you are UNDER AGE.

And if something was to happen, Then they would say you checked the box.

 

I have ordered from Thompson Cigars, and they only ask you for a credit card, to verify age... If this helps.

I bought some condom online even though you needed to be 18 years old to purchase.
I know condoms and cigars are not the same thing but it should work.
I just don't recomend purchasing tobacco online when you are under 18.

 

They're not going to ask you at the door for your ID. As long as you can get through everything online, you're in the clear.

OT you shouldnt have any trouble buying or having them delivered as almost every conceivable payment method has a minimum age of 18 to possess (pay pal, all major credit cards ect) so unless for some reason they need ID verification (which i would be very weary to give up over the internet in first place) you should have no worries. My I ask what it is you are doing with cigars underage?! I mean im grown and i dont like them one bit, are you buying cigars or blunts ;D

 

I had imported cigarettes from china, not even a checkbox that asks if I'm 18 lol.

OT: Most sites (like Gold4fun) will ask you to fax a copy of your Drivers License or ID. It's even happened to me on PP.

 

Hey, I'd reccomend that you guys let it wait for a year than you'll be 18 and you can buy without any problems. I would also like to advice you that this stuff I really bad for your health. Base on some facts that I read online, it is said that every cigar/cigarette you smoke, takes away 0.05s of your life. We only get to live once and why would you want to shorten that time? Anyways if you really are so desperate, then the plan of delivering it to your sisters dorm should be okay but only if your sister is okay with it. And dont get caught because the consequences can be bad. And don't drag your sister into any problems as well. Hope I helped

 

Yes, you needed to be 18 years old to purchase the condoms from the site. The site sold stuff like Pocket Pussys etc.

 

In all honesty, they're covered either way.

With that checkbox being there, if you purchased them under-aged and checked the box saying you were of the age of 18; you would go down for fraud, not them.

I would definitely just have someone do it in their name, although even then if caught (unlikely) your sister could go down for purchasing goods for under-aged people.
