It's pretty sneaky.. 'cuz people will be waiting until the last second, waiting for someone else to bid. They end when people wait too long to bid essentially.

Yo this isn't actually a rip off. Because lets say you bid 100 times in the contest and you paid 500$ for a 2400$ Espresso Maker 75$+500=575$ 2400$ That means you saved like 60% that's fucking awesome and you could resell it for 1500$ means you could make about 1425$ profit. If you want to sell it.
