Profile Visitor Message Suggestion

Hi guys, I was just browsing through profiles and I thought why can't we have Visitor messages? I find it a really useful method to give someone a quick message/reminder instead of PMing them all the time it really does become a pain. It would also stop the constant bumping over little things like 'Here is my MSN :' Instead of that you could just pop in a visitor message.

User notes? Never heard anything like that. I just checked my profile can't find anything. Even if you did, I didn't get a notification about it which isn't too good :/

No support. Every time I have seen Visitor Messages on another website they are not used for "really useful method to give someone a quick message/reminder" they always just end up becoming conversations and almost always a place for people to spam. What makes PMing such a pain? Private messaging someone would require the same amount of effort as it would take to leave a Visitor message for someone. I see no reason to implement a system that always gets abused when we already have a system that works fine and is not a hassle at all (Private messaging).

 

I dont believe our current version of vbulletin supports that.

Well wouldn't it be better to spam in visitor messages instead of threads? Its also easier to review your whole conversation with visitor messages because once your inbox is full, Your going to have to delete something.

 

People don't spam like they do on visitor messages, on threads because most people consider visitor messages a place where it is allowed. Also why should we allow visitor messages at all if they are just going to become a place for spam? They won't get infracted for spam visitor messages, however if they go out and spam on a thread they will get infracted. Then they learn from their infraction and stop spamming on threads. When you reply to a private message it quotes the previous one over and over. This means you can find the entire conversation in one message, opposed to looking through pages of visitor messages with a bunch of other people posting. Plus I don't think you should have too many problems with inbox space, considering I get pmed semi-often and I'm only at 92%. Also you could just delete really old sent items to clear space. Also if visitor messages become a place of discussion and conversation that would be a bad thing. Wouldn't we rather have our good discussion on the forums opposed to hidden off on someone's profile? The bottom line is that is it not worth implementing when the current system is more than fine.

 

You have a point there, But VB has an option to view the User to User conversation via Visitor Messages, Will deleted messages in my inbox still come back quoted though?

 

This version of vB doesn't even support it, I believe.
