private server help

whenever i follow the directions of the private server, it never works. I go in the realm list, change it, brong up wow, loggin with the account i created on private servers site, it says the info is invalid, then i type in my normal accounts info and it says "realm list error" or something like that. please help me, i wanna test out some different characters in pvp for retail wow
