anyone getting the pixel?

currently have a 5x and i'm contemplating the pixel

I just bought a 5x, if you kept up with the Vanessa Chronicles I posted. I love this thing, it is quite legit. I waited to get the new Nexus but when I learned it was NOT a Nexus phone and it was going to be some overpowered, overpriced thing I swayed away from it. I don't need a resolution that high, but I haven't looked at the official reveal yet.

One thing I wish the 5x had was a way to turn off the phone via the fingerprint scanner or the gesture thing that the Pixel has. I'll go look up the official reveal now.

 

what software does it run on?

 

My iPhone 5S is over two years old and done its contract, so whenever it finally shits the bed I'm thinking of picking up a Pixel for my next phone. That said, my iPhone 5S still works great, still has good battery life, etc, so I'm going to try to run it till she dies before I waste my money on a new phone that does way more shit than I need it too (mainly just the ability to call, text, email, watch xvideos)

I got you @Loyal To The Game but i don't stick with phones (or anything like that), i hop around and try out different phones and shit constantly. I've had a Moto X/Iphone 6/iPhone 6 Plus/Nexus 5x all in the last two years tbh

I know the Pixel has an estimated 20-30% battery increased compared to the nexus, but the nexus battery life isn't all that good to begin with

 

Honestly man, idk if there's some scam you got going on with the telecom industry, but that sounds like you're spending a lot of phones that all essentially do the same things just in slightly different ways in slightly different casings. I honestly try my hardest to stay with the same phone for as long as possible

Tbh I just want another smartphone with a full, physical keyboard again. I had a Motorola Droid before that and it'll likely be forever my favorite phone I've ever owned.



Seriously. That thing was fucking awesome. I could hammer out a 200 word text message with zero typos in no time flat. Now I can barely write 10 characters without at least one of them being a typo on my iPhone and I've been using one since 2011. Touchscreen virtual keyboards fuckin suck but apparently I'm alone in that thought since to my knowledge no phone company makes a smartphone with a physical keyboard that isn't ancient garbage

 

They're all smartphones if that's what you mean, but android and ios function differently and I just like trying out new shit. Bigger screen, battery, small features like the 5x's fingerprint scanner on the back + It doesn't cost much, I just re-sell my phone and get normally a solid 85-90+% back out of it (sometimes turn a profit) and buy the new phone with that $$.

You may just be bad at texting man or try out a different keyboard on your phone. There is also a case that replicates the feel of actual buttons on the virtual keyboard (not sure if that ended up actually coming out though)

The original Nexus, which I used until now, had horrible battery life. This Nexus 5x I have has amazing battery life for what I use it with. I really don't think it is worth the price to upgrade to a Pixel, though. The Nexus 5x is a darn good phone, especially for the price, and the bells and whistles of the Pixel, particularly the 5 inch model, aren't ALL that impressive compared to it. I do really miss having an AMOLED screen. If it gets more people into the amazing world of Google phones, then I'm happy, no-hassle phone I can take to any carrier at any time!

@Loyal To The Game I thought I wanted that too. My fastest texting was actually when I used a T9 keyboard. I was insane with that, but I had a lot of practice then. The physical keyboards were also great. I'm at my slowest on a virtual keyboard because of the mistakes that autocorrect seems to attempt to fix, but it actually isn't too bad. For the added bulk, I don't think virtual keyboards are worth it anymore. I moved on.

 

But I don't really text from my phone these days. I use my computer to do that.
