Organ Donor

So I just decided today to become an organ donor. It made me feel good inside. I was happy about the decision too.

Flipped out.

Apparently I've added my name to some hit-list because my mom thinks the government is going to kill me early to get my innards. I think she's crazy, and just ignore her and go on with my normal life. Then my grandma calls me and freaks out too. Then my aunt, and then I get a calls from a few more people about it. So my mom has told almost everyone I know. Then when I get home, my dad wont talk to me or my mom.

Now I think they are over-reacting about this. Majorly over-reacting

Or am I just stupid for thinking I did something nice and I really made a mistake.

(My mom also opposed me giving blood.)

I really think that's overreacting. If you'll be saving a life, why should your parents freak out? It's stupid.

Your mother is wrong, being an organ/blood/plasma donor is great. Why the fuck wouldn't you want to save people's lives after you've already died.And why would the government kill people? If it was anybody it would be the medical companies.

Why would they kill a healthy person, to save an unhealthy person? Wouldn't they just kill off the unhealthy person instead?

Good that your a donor, i'm not. But thats because i want all my guts intact. Since if i die, and heaven exists, you never know, i might need those organs as an entry fee or something.

The reason i'm still alive today is because of people like you. What you did was a great thing; don't listen to your folks. Plus, the person who receives your organ will be extremely thankful that he/she got a second chance at life.

 

The myth is that they allow you to die and use your organs. You wont just save on person. You can save a person per organ they keep. Besides, organ transplant surgeries are quite expensive. Do a price check on livers and kidneys, you'll be surprised.

I, myself, am not a donor yet. My mother wont allow me to be a donor until I turn 18. I don't believe they kill you, but if you do die, why not save someone? And perhaps you'll live on inside of them

 

I take it your mother is a republican who doesn't like the idea of socialized medicine? (Educated guess) I would suggest you remind her of the Hippocratic Oath all doctors take (I don't think it is binding though). There is no list of people who are targeted to be harmed/killed for their organs.

Mind you, if you buy a motor cycle, statistically you may become a donor. There is a reason why doctors call them "Donor-cycles". On that note, drive carefully please.

"I know Z that had X happen to them so Y must be true" This information is useless, we cannot attempt to look up that case or even to do research checking the validity of your comment, which turns your comment into a urban myth. I've heard horoscopes that were less generalized. I should know, it happened to a friend of a friend of mine.

No, you won't. All of what makes you "you" is located in the brain. And they haven't figured out how to transplant a brain... yet.

Just tell her that when you die your organs could be used to save somones life. Ask her to be put in the position of a near dead person and she asks the doctor if there are any organ's to keep her alive and the doctor says no.
