    Mormons?

What do you think about Mormons?
Do you know what/who they are? Do you like them/dislike them? What do you think that their beliefs are? I am very interested about what other people think of us (I am a Mormon), and how people are reacting to the whole proposition 8 thing in California. Ask any questions that you want and I'll try to answer them as best I can.

And no, we are not polygamists! And No, we do not have horns! (I have no idea where that thought came from.)

To be honest, I don't actually know what a mormon is. I have heard of them, but never actually studied up on them. If you could supply me with a basic overview of what it is I could study up and let you know my thoughts =]

    Edit:
That gave me a good laugh, but wtf?

I don't mind Mormons at all. And Jews are supposed to have horns :p (I'm Jewish, I can say stuff like that - I've never heard Mormons have horns :p)

One thing I've heard about Mormons is that people confuse them with Amish people. Lol. Oh, and the only reason Mitt Romney isn't president right now is because he's a fucking Mormon. Stupid politics. But yeah, no questions really; just another religion in my book.

Ha ha, what the heck? That's something that Mormons say, by the way, cause we don't like to swear. Basically we believe in Jesus Christ, but we believe that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ who we believe are 2 separate beings by the way, in Palmyra, New York, and restored the true church back to the earth. We also believe in the bible, but we also believe in the Book of Mormon, a sacred book that Joseph Smith translated. I could go on and on, keep asking questions if you want.

I think Mormons are people. Yes, they are everyday people, and yes I know what they are. I have friends and a had a really serious relationship with a mormon so of course I like them. They believe in god...

To top it all off... Proposition 8 is great :p

Mass chaos to be honest. If gays change judges minds to take it out of the constitution (which they really can't at all) means lots of people are getting impeached and they will have the idea proposed and probably passed for the 3rd time.

I hate religion in general and i find most serious religious people are boring. So i think Mormons are boring and stupid since they are wasting their life believing in something that probably isn't true.

We're all sheep. Don't judge people by what shepherd they choose to follow.

Um, not that I know of. We have some strict rules like no sex before you're married and no drinking and stuff, but we interact with the community, and generally we're pretty normal. :p

Yeah, since we're not supposed to have sex until we are married, most mormon girls are a little bit weird that way, if they think that the relationship is getting too serious, they will generally break it off:( kind of sucks for us mormon boys. lol

Hey thanks for thinking us mormons are normal people:) Cause we are. Yeah, proposition 8 is pretty crazy, and I'm glad that it didn't pass.

Well, thanks for commenting, even if I don't really agree with you. And I honestly believe that it's true, and even if it wasn't true, there are good principles that can be followed that make the community better and safer and that can give people true happiness.

    Ha ha good point Wendy:)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and that the reason that we are called Mormons is because of the Book of Mormon that we believe in that I mentioned earlier.

Thanks everyone and keep commenting or asking any questions that you may have.

I'm fine with anyone, religious beliefs aside.

However, I just think some of the beliefs of LDS/Mormons are ridiculous.
There is abunch of sources on the internet dedicated to posting these
(not like scientologists.. those get the lowest score on the totem pole.)

I also find discrepancy with the LDS on their ever-evolving prophesies which conveniently coincide with changing US law.

Ex. It was once an accepted belief in the church that black people were black because God cursed them... Until the US Supreme court decided blacks were considered equal under the constitution. Coincidentally, LDS received an updated prophesy recanting this belief at the very same time.

And it was pretty much the same story with polygamy.

Tubba, would you mind addressing this?

Yeah I agree with you. Some mormons are ridiculous, but so are some people in any religion.

Oooh that's a toughie. I'm don't fully understand this myself, and I'm sure that a more qualified spokesman for our church would be able to explain this better; however, we have a living prophet of our church who we believe communicates with God, and he knows what is right. In the instance with the blacks not being able to receive the priesthood, think about what was going on at the time. There was much racism towards the blacks, and if blacks were able to hold the priesthood at that time, many people might have become bitter toward the church and the gospel wouldn't have been able to go on and be spread around the earth for everyone to hear. The prophet knew this, and knew that it was more important for the gospel to spread at that time then it was for blacks to hold the priesthood at that time. Like I said I don't fully understand it, and if you want a more satisfactory answer I will search into it and try to find one. As for polygamy, this is another hard question to answer. This is another of those topics where you have to know that the prophet is real and is a true prophet, in order to fully understand. I think that polygamy was first introduced so that the mormon community could be populated, so that the message could be better spread. This was never about sex, or having multiple wives. As soon as this wasn't supposed to happen anymore, the prophet of the church said so, and the people stopped. I will try to more fully answer this if this didn't satisfy your questions.
Keep posting if you have any more comments or questions everyone.

    I appreciate your honesty.

So this living prophet, essentially a Mormon 'Pope' right? How does this prophet become appointed?

Also, do you, as a Mormon, struggle with your own church doctrine? What specifically about your own belief system do you find hard to believe? I've known many Mormons who struggle to grip their beliefs, particularly the origins of Mormonism. (Joseph Smith being the only man to ever have seen the revealed word)
